I have an NPC village at the bottom of my map, I only had 2 villagers there but since I completely redid the village (tore down all the old houses) I put up all new houses made of spruce wood, the entire village is surrounded by a 10 block high cobble wall covered in torches, I have fire and cactus surrounding the entire thing for defenses, 4 iron golems, 2 which spawned naturally. There are about 30 houses in the village now and the villager population stays at around 20 to 25 villagers. But my problem is that I have had 2 zombie attacks, the first we located a zombie spawner under the village and tried to make a trap deep underground so we could get exp from them, while we were underground apparently there were tons of zombies up here killing everyone, we assumed it was because of the spawner so we destroyed it, had 4 villagers left, they started breeding and got back up to what we used to have so all seemed ok. I saved and exited my game earlier with no zombies here, I was on easy. I loaded up the game again on easy not changing the settings and there were zombies all over again, inside of the houses even, and everything is very well lit, every house has several torches and/or glowstone, as well as tons of torches in front of and on the houses and the tops of the houses. So why are zombie armies attacking? The first attack when we still had the spawner zombies were in houses then too. No doors were broken anywhere either time.
The Wiki page on zombie sieges states that "They occur regardless of how well lit or walled off a village is." Doors are only broken in hard mode,, but zombies can spawn right inside the houses during a siege. I try to make sure that I'm well away (farther than 128 blocks0 from my villages at night and this prevents zombies from spawning in the villages.
Zombie sieges can happen on easy mode? when I looked it up it said normal and hard only. And should zombies load in like that? Because I saved up on the wall looking down at the village and when I reloaded my game later all the sudden there's zombies all over and even in the houses.
I built a wall around my village (It was down to 2 villagers as well), but I didn't put torches on the wall. Instead I placed torches on the walls of the buildings so the village itself is lit up with no dark areas at all.The only zombies I have seen since then spawned on top of the wall (where I have no torches) and were unable to attack the villagers.
That reminds me ...
I have a second village where the population was completely wiped out before I knew there was trouble. If I build a wall around that village, will villagers spawn there on their own, or can villagers only spawn through mating?

I've had several zombies spawn inside well lit areas (like villager houses) on easy... not sure if the Wiki considers it a siege, but I do. I've also occasionally had hostile mobs spawn in my mining tunnels - 2 x 1 tunnel lit by torches every sixth block and completely closed off from any caves and other openings. My theory is that if you're too thorough in lighting up large areas, mobs will occasionally spawn there since there are no other options for them... but I think the zombie thing in the Wiki is either wrong or the Xbox Edition is different and zombie sieges do occur on easy mode on the Xbox.

zombie sieges don't work according to the wiki, something about the coding not allowing the siege to start. The reason sieges start on the xbox is because of the small area for mobs to spawn on the map, and that the mobs will only spawn and operate around where you are.So these sieges are not real sieges, but are actually just a dozen randomly spawned zombies nearby converging on the area, making it a siege in the players view.
Pretty sure that's how the wiki put it at least. I'm not the best on the technical aspects of the game to be honest.

I guess my point is that zombies (and indeed other hostile mobs) will spawn in areas that are well lit. For example, I've been playing this morning on Easy mode and have just killed 2 skeletons, a spider, and a creeper that spawned in my very well lit slime farm and they have spawned in my mining tunnels as described. In a 1 wide by 2 high straight tunneil with torches every 6th block, there should be absolutely no blocks not lit enough to prevent mobs from spawning... yet, I do encounter them. As I said, the tunnels are totally sealed off from any caves (i.e. doors on entrances where applicable and solid stone otherwise). It's not in the same sorts of numbers that I've seen zombies spawn in well lit villages (and I'll still call them a siege myself), but it does happen... so, the lighting code is not totally reliable at the best of times.

Yeah its a glitch when they spawn in secure areas like that. I have had that issue once myself with a villager farm on my flatland creative. Technically they can spawn in light, but when they do spawn, the game reads the light level and will instantly force a despawn on the mob. so it sounds like what is being described is that either the game is glitching, or this poster has missed a spot that is allowing them to spawn inside the village. I could not help but notice in the picture that the poster has a few one block alleyways between some of the houses, and the inside of the cobblestone wall has no torches on it. Could be a gap there. If a ton of zombies spawn in a single spot, they will most likely be grouped together and will be able to force one through the wall of the house itself. I have the same issue with my fortified custom village in hard survival where the villagers converge on a single spot and one will occasionally escape...

Looking at the picture - Although the wall itself has no torches on the inside, the distance to the houses (where the torches are on the fences) is only 3 or 4 blocks, so nothing should spawn between the wall and the houses. The top of the wall is well lit, so nothing should spawn up there either. The unlit alleys may cause spawns, but anything that does spawn there should be blocked by the fences. It could well be that the numbers are causing some to get pushed through the walls and fences, but in my experience, mobs that get pushed in this way usually don't/can't attack and eventually just snap back into the place they were before getting pushed. It could be that when the player exits and re-enters the area (and/or the game itself), the mobs in that area are re-forming on the wrong side of the fences (in much the same way that farm animals can).
The skeletons and such that spawned in my slime farm this morning did not despawn on their own... it had to kill them with my sword. My pattern of lighting in that slime farm is torches on the floor every 6 blocks (yes, this does slow down the spawning of slimes, but I still get enough to meet my needs). However, it should be well lit enouigh to totally eliminate other hostile mob spawns since no block on the floor has a light level lower than 8 (and actually no block should have a light level lower than 10 with this pattern)... and, as I saw this morning, it doesn't totally stop hostiles from spawning there.
That reminds me ...
