I currently have an xbox 360 to play mine craft with, and the other day, i played some on my friends phone. I noticed that you can turn on infinite worlds. I was wondering, why isn't xbox 360 capable of this? I also saw mojang confirming a future update to come out with 1k draw distance. Why isn't the xbox 360 not doing this? isn't the platform just as capable as a phone to have at least infinite worlds?
The platform is as capable if not more capable than most phones. However, Microsoft and Sony have rules and limits.
Having infinite worlds on consoles would allow extremely large save files, which Sony and Microsoft will not allow so it doesn't eat up your HDD. As for things like render distance, and partially world size, the consoles have to contend with 4 player drop in/drop out co-op. Meaning the same console has to be able basically run 4 different things on one console. Even PCs struggle when there are multiple windows of Minecraft open and running.
People should just except that because of how closed off and limited consoles are that they're never going to have infinite worlds or insane render distances. If you want that, play on the PC or the Pocket Edition. Most people will trade the infinite worlds for a more streamlined, stable, and co-op friendly version of Minecraft.
Hasn't this same question been asked (and answered) dozens (if not hundreds) of times before?
People seem to ignore the fact when they ask these "If _______ can do _______, why can't ______ do it too?"..... that it works both ways.
Also because the 360 keeps its chunks loaded so all redstone machines are kept running, crops keep grow, baby animals keep growing, even if your on the other side of the map, as far as im aware its only consoles that do this and doing so means the worlds have to be kept small (in comparison with pc/pe)
Then the question is: Will the Xbox One keep it's chunks loaded on the other side of the map with it's 36x larger worlds?

This might be a stupid question, but a lot of people including myself usually have their own private world or play Minecraft offline. Is it not possible for 4J to make a setting that formats the new world you are creating to allow you to exclude features such as multiplayer from the world? I am assuming that eliminating something such as multiplayer would leave more room in a world for things such as extra mobs, or larger worlds.
I'm just speculating here too, but because of the way the consoles are programmed (compared to how the others are), I see no reason why they wouldn't keep the chunks loaded. Sounds like a good use of the extra memory to me.

Why you need infinite worlds? The overworld its big on survival, you have the nether, and then the end, if you fly on creative you will see that is big as the overworld,so you have two overworlds aaaaand the nether:D
The Pocket Edition is the only other version actually developed by Mojang. It's completely unrelated to the console editions. Even the platforms are so markedly different that comparisons between them are useless.

A common (although by now a very repetitive) question. And we've all tried to answer it. However, I think wolfeuk answered it best:

In other words, it's not about if the 360 (or the One) is capable or not. It's about how the consoles were programmed differently from the other platforms. The consoles were never designed from the get-go to have infinite worlds. And they can't have them, unless they're reprogrammed- and I'm not willing to put everything on hold for a year while they reprogram all the consoles just so we can have infinite worlds. Why the vocal minority can't get it through their heads that it ain't ever happening and give up on their impossible request is beyond me. I guess they think if (a few of them) keep whining enough it will (eventually) happen. But like I said about squeaky wheels before: sure, they might get the grease.... but they might also just get thrown away and replaced.
Another thing that's funny to me is how people think that "Minecraft" is "Minecraft", like there's only one MC, and that they should all be alike.
No, there's 5 versions of MC, and they're all different. As the OP discovered- some have some things, some another. None of them have everything. (Here's something to blow your minds: my vote for Overall Best "Minecraft" goes to..... Minecraft Realms(!))
Finally (I'll get off my soapbox here shortly), it amazes me how people (including the OP) latch on to one thing ("____ has _____, why doesn't ____?") and totally ignore all the other shortcomings of that platform. In this case, yea, PE has infinite worlds.... but would you like to see (the long) list of all the things it doesn't have that the consoles does?
The grass isn't always greener....
I agree with Geneo - the answer is "because" the developer made a decision a long time ago to do it that way... and since Minecraft is such an old game already... it's just not worth their time and effort to change it now... (especially for a bunch of people who are, it seems, too lazy to even use a search engine to determine just how many times this question has been asked and answered already even just in the last month).

We dont have 'infinite' worlds because Sony and Microsoft have a problem with it. At E3, Notch apparently said 'I could have made the world's infinite if it wasn't for Microsoft'
Its also because of split screen. If it wasn't for that, the world's could be bigger
Notch has nothing to do with making minecraft for the consoles so doubt it was 'apparently' his words
Plus theres no such thing as infinite worlds, even pc doesnt have infinite worlds
I would much rather have it as we got it now where chunks are kept loaded and put up with smaller worlds than have what the pc has,
I personally think we got the better deal
Agreed. I personally have never had any issues while playing the 360 version of Minecraft. I have had the odd lag issue, but that's as far as it went. So I think that they do a really good job on the console version.
I wonder how many players we will be able to get on the Xbox one once the multiplayer feature is fully up and running? many games on the one can do 64 player games of 32 vs. 32 players each. Considering the worlds are 36 x larger, maybe we can expect similar player counts? As that is pretty big for 24 or 32 players.

Never mind, he said that he could have made 'infinite' worlds on the Xbox one. I know he doesn't develop it, but what that means is that the next gens are capable of it, but there's a restriction by Microsoft, probably with the save size restrictions.

I don't think it should surprise anyone at this point that 1) Mojang is capable of programming rolling chunk loading to enable "infinite" worlds since they've done it on the PC and it's safe to assume that 4J is also capable of it AND 2) that Microsoft sets rules on the Xbox consoles that prevent programming companies just doing whatever they like. Microsoft has reasons for those rules and since it's their house, everyone should be willing to play by their rules if they want to play in their house.
It still doesn't mean that if Microsoft did a complete 180 on their rules that "infinite" worlds would run perfectly on the Xbox and that we wouldn't have to forfeit something like splitscreen mode to get them. IMO, the "infinite" worlds are just not worth it... MOST people don't utilize them (most won't ever even utilize an Xbox One world fully and many, many have never even come close to utilizing an Xbox 360 world fully). I also think it's totally not worth 4J's time to reprogram the game at this point to, as I've said many time, pacify a bunch of people who are just too lazy to click their way into another world to get "infinite" space to build and/or explore whatever they want. This "war" over infinite worlds has never been about the size of the worlds... it's really been about a desire to beat down Microsoft's "rules" for their consoles... rules, I believe, they have every right to set.
I've always thought the 'infinite world' thing was mostly a mental thing, some players just don't want that feeling of being 'limited'. Never mind that they can make as many new worlds as they want, or that everything else is limited in the game- for some reason they're focused frantically on world size. Know what? There's a lot more that makes Minecraft "Minecraft" than it having infinite worlds.

Working with Sony/Microsoft on world size – not "infinite" due to save size limits, but a lot bigger than PS3/Xbox 360.

And agreeing with everything said above, nobody needs 'infinite' worlds anyways. Not even acheivement hunter as used all the iron in their world.
