Super simple exploding tree trap. You will need: TNT, 4 blocks of wool, extra dirt or grass blocks, redstone torch, lever.
Make a hole Below a tree. Dig out the bottom most block of wood. Put a lever underneath, switch it on. Place the 4 blocks of wool surrounding what would be the last block of wood.
place a red stone torch on each block of wool. put a piece of red stone dust in the middle of wool. Put TNT in the surrounding corners do the pit, and cover up your work. The next person to chop the tree down is in for a surprise!

1.) Put four TNT down
2.) Place wood blocks around the TNT
3.) Place a button on the wood around the TNT
4.) Put a sign above the button going "Don't touch the button!"
5.) Boom.

3. Give up on the trap because everyone goes around the pressure plate.
4. Kill people by jumping out of the tree with your sword swinging wildy.
But in all seriousness, I like the trap idea, I might just have to use it myself
