Title says it all really, I believe it would be better for the game
The way they are now is fine, but only if you want to play with your friends or only eight others. People like myself find their friends list full after a matter of days trying to play online. Not only that, most people can't or won't run their Xbox/PS3 24/7 only running Minecraft, so it makes it difficult to play, as you have to switch to another persons game, or try and find a new one.
Just wondering if this will ever be an option and why it already isn't.
probly not for the 360 and ps3 I did read the new xbox magazine they said they were thinking about useing the cloud for the xbox one sooo a maybe for ps4 and xbox one. I wouldn't get ur hopes up though .
welcome my opion is old gen will get the updates but the current gen will get some new stuff like in the magazine about them getting some new game modes like hunger games but their just talking about it so we have to wait and see what's actually coming.
I doubt 'dedicated' servers will ever come to the consoles. Why pay for something they already have for free?
If you want 'dedicated' servers that much, that's what Minecraft Realms is for.
I know that, but I'm saying people would pay for a dedicated server so they can have a 24/7 server that holds more than eight people, like people do on PC. You took my previous comment in a wrong way
People who play online with 8 people in a world already complain incessantly about lag. I personally doubt this would improve even if the game were being run through an actual server. (If you're not already aware, MCX360 uses the host's console like a server, so the world is not uploaded to an actual server when you play online.) Also, people complain about running low of resources when there are a lot of people playing in a single world... and that certainly wouldn't improve just by putting a 360-sized world on a dedicated server. So, I think it's something that will probably never be implemented on the Xbox 360. Personally, if you want to go the large server route, I would follow Geneo's advice and do it through Minecraft Realms... or wait to see what comes out on that PS4 of yours.
As for servers, pc can handle it (as per usual) console can't. We just gotta make do...
Certainly the Xbox One and the PS4 can handle it. The tech in the Xbox 360 is 10 years old and most 10-year-old PCs wouldn't handle it either and neither would any 10-year-old phones. It is how it is BECAUSE the developers made a conscious decision to do it differently on the Xbox 360 (probably in order to accommodate one feature that the Xbox has that the PC and phones don't utilize... namely splitscreen mode) This difference attracts a whole new type of customer into the game... those who have no interest in playing on larger servers, but who like to play with small groups of people in their homes.
With the mess that some of he large Minecraft servers are in on the PC (i.e. charging people exhorbitant amounts to play... prompting Mojang to change the EULA), do you really blame them for not wanting to encourage the same sort of mess on the consoles?
It's Mojang's software and if they want to do that it's completely their call. If they want too they can remove all the multiplayer rights and we could be left with single player mode. As it is, they've just added rules to prevent people from charging for tiered game service. Which, IMO was a smart move. Players where getting milked on what is essentially Mojang's game.
