I need some advice on how to survive in the Nether. I always seem to end up dying from something. I don't attack pigmen, and can never find any magma cubes. The ghasts and the blazesare what I die from the most. Any advice or help is welcome
Additionally, I want to make some fire resistance potions, but I can't find magma cubes. Is there a certain place you can find them?
Take stacks of cobblestone and build retreats. Since Ghasts usually appear over large chasms and lakes you can build border walls around those openings to prevent sneak attacks from below. Find a cavern and explore/expand it. Ghasts cannot spawn in narrow passages, so they will leave you alone.
Build your nether portal in the overworld at a low elevation so that you are more likely to spawn inside a cavern in the Nether rather than high on a cliff. (Be careful, this could also spawn you in the middle of a lava lake!)
magma cubes seem to be everywhere, so wandering around should produce plenty. Be sure to take a looting sword so you get more balls from them when killed
In addition to what TheOriginalStanJr suggested (all good advice BTW), take a bow (with Infinity and a Power enchant is even better) and a ton of snowballs. That way, you can take out both ghasts and blazes at range while ducking in and out of the cover you construct from cobblestone. Since ghasts cannot break cobblestone, you can play hide and seek with them this way all day long and not take much damage. The most dangerous part is running out to collect the loot they drop.
As for Magma Cubes, listen for the slapping sound they make.
also , on top of what they all said, dont bring valuable stuff like diamonds. all i ever bring on a first trip per world is iron armor, pick, sword, bow , stack of arrows and stack of cobble.
fire resistance helps.
if you have access to enchanting, fire protection 4 armor can help

You can fight blazes like you can fight skeletons: Get in a few hits, then hide arround a corner as they catch on fire to shoot. After they take their shots, go back around the corner and finish them off. Diamond swords work the best, and if you hit fast enough, you can kill them without them firing. Bows are also a good option.
You can find magma cubes anywhere, as previously stated. They don't always drop cream though, and only by the big and medium sized ones.
Blaze powder + slime ball = magma cream, no need to find magma cubes.
Yeah, you just have to find Blazes, which are way more dangerous than Magma Cubes.
If you find a Blaze spawner you may feel the urge to try and confine it quickly..... it's a good idea but be careful because you can lose control of the situation real quick.
