Hey running some numbers through my mind about building a city. The spawn area would be the city center with roads going out in 4 directions. I'm thinking of making build areas 32 blocks by 32 blocks. 32x32 seems to be large enough for a decent building and is small enough to look like a city and is easy to lay out very large areas because it is half a stack. Streets will be 8 wide including street lights. Rail lines will be underground. Community builds like a community nether portal will also take up 32x32. They will have a building around them etc.
It's certainly a good size, but I think I would vary it up a bit so that the shapes of the buildings can change depending on the size of the lot and some might have more expansive gardens than others (like a city hall vs. an office tower, for example).

That's a good idea. I was figuring a few blocks might be a little bigger because of rivers or something. So you think like a city hall area could get a 64x32 area or do you mean vary like some lots may be 40 by 60 type of thing to break it up?
I think you'll have an easier time making symmetrical buildings if you use odd number size city blocks. Say 33x33 or 66x66. I find it's easier to make builds when I have a center-line to work off of too.
I think you'll probably want to mostly vary just the width of the lots, keeping the roads pretty much straight... but you could get adventuresome and vary both and even put in a few curves in your roads. Afterall, not all the roads in the city near me (which is built pretty much on a grid) line up perfectly either.
So does 32x32 seem about right? Any other ideas?

Are you doing creative Baldur?
The odd number is interesting to have a center point. I had not thought of that. thanks
