First off, forgive me, I'm asking this for my 11 year old who has just got a 360 for doing well in his SATS and a glowing school report. he has loads of friends on Xbox Live, has a Gold membership ans would love to play minecraft online with his mates.
However whenever he tries to start a world with the online flag set Xbox throws up an error saying that a local account does not have sufficient privileges.
There are three profiles on the Xbox, my son's, his brother and me. All profiles are connected to Xbox Live and on-line play is allowed for all of them. #1 Son is the only one with Gold.
I am at a loss now of where to look for a solution. I hope someone can tell me what we are doing wrong.
If checking those doesn't work, I would try deleting the game itself, which can be done without deleting any of the worlds, and then downloading it again. Sometimes things happen and the easiest way to fix them is to download the game again.
Thanks for that, I'll have another look, they certainly make it complicated, I've never seen a system with so much security, verification etc in my life. It's a wonder anyone gets to play LOL
Am I right in assuming that ALL profiles on the Xbox have to have the appropriate rights to allow my son to start a world online? - he is the only one with Gold so is the only one that can play online ....

The game was not downloaded - bought on disc, does this change things? To be fair, he's not created much (unlike his PC version!) so losing the worlds would not be a biggie ...
Still no joy with this. I'm beginning to think that the error is not related to the allow online play setting as the message does not specifically say this. I will try to set every option on his profile to "allow" and see if it works, then start removing to tie it down. Worth a go hopefully.
Can someone confirm that it is possible for a child account to play online? most of his mates seem to have adult accounts which ain't happening .....
I haven't - I can't enable it so that my 11 year old can access it. Anyway, that's not really an issue for this forum (although he loves watching Minecraft vids on youtube)
I am a responsible parent, I monitor what my kids look at. My son is on Youtube all the time on the PC, yeah, ok some of the language on minecraft vids is not the best, but he knows to switch off Youtube has parental controls, let me use them not just block the whole thing Microsoft, stop being so controlling!

strange. it must be because its a child account maybe? try and see if it works on your profile.( or if you want to spend money , switch to ps3 (joking))
can this son play any games online such as call of duty (if you let him play that lol, mine dont care what I play, they trust that I know right from wrong and wont go shoot up an airport because i saw it in a video game, and they know i just ignore the foul language at this point due to hearing it daily at school )

Animes I've Watched/am watching - Sword art online , Fairy Tale , FMA Brotherhood, InuYasha
difficult to test as I don't have Gold, so can't play online and Minecraft is the only game that he shares with his mates at the moment - things like COD aren't an option - 12 certificate only is his rule. I might get a one week trail for Gold to see if I can play ....
im assuming 12 certificate meens E games only? if all else fails maybe try spending 20 dollars and buy the digital version? its lss expensive than spedning 300 for a ps3 which imo has better and less buggy parental controls, but thats not the point , you have xbox

Ok got it sorted, my account worked once I added the 1 week trial of Live Gold, so that again pointed to the settings on my son's account. I set all the controls where they were set to "blocked" to "friends only" and it worked.
Sometime I will test turning them off one at a time to see which control it was for future reference
Thanks for all the help

This guide from Microsoft's Xbox website shows all the different options and what they do, just in case.
