You know what really grinds my gears? People who hate on 4j because of the time it takes to make the updates, or the release of the next gen consoles. They complain that it takes forever for them to update, then when the update is released, and there are bugs, they complain that 4j didn't take enough time to fix those bugs. There is no way to please these people.
What really grinds your gears? Feel free to share, but don't cause problems and don't turn this into a hate thread.
Well said. 4J comes out with updates about the same as Mojang does. The only difference is Mojang comes out with several 'snapshots' ('test' updates so we can find the bugs for them) before they issue the 'real' update.
The potato/zombie fiasco. How soon we forget that, if you look at 4J responses to the "bug" reports of the last update, zombies were never suppose to drop potatoes in the first place (in the console editions). All heck broke loose because we expected them to (because the do in PC, so?). Within a week 4J came out with a fix, that, among other things, caved to our wishes and allowed zombies to drop potatoes.
Agreed, even if updates came out weekly, some people would be upset.
Minecrafters love to complain.
People deleting and redownloading their game at the first hint of an issue BEFORE trying a simple reset of the settings. I don't know how many times I've typed: "Help & Options" - "Settings" - "Reset to Defaults" on these forums... It solves so much (like the notorious "reset to 0%" bug)... yet, people don't seem to ever try it as a "first resort."
I also hate it when people keep asking for infinite world, and try to compare it to other versions. Now that 0.9.0 has come out for pocket edition, everyone keeps saying that its not fair that they have better stuff then we do. And then everyone has to pitch in to explain that it isn't possible on the Xbox.
Asking for infinate worlds, claiming "copyright" as the reason we don't have a skin editor, asking "How do I do/find/make *insert thing that is several updates down the line*.. those are definately my pet peeves. That and people asking for Nintendo themed skin packs.
Right.
I guess what gets to me the most is the eternal optimists out there (especially when it comes to infinite worlds and mods) who refuse to accept reality. They're the "Never say never", and "They could do it..." crowd. Apparently years of it not happening (and no hint from reliable sources of it ever happening) doesn't phase them. I guess they figure if they post enough their wishes will eventually come true.
Why would I bother to comment on their crap videos?... The hits might just put money in their pockets. I honestly believe that's why some keep coming back to stir the pot here... trying to cash in (literally) on what should reasonably be a minor inconvenience by continually refueling a fire. I guess that grinds my gears a bit about "user created" franchises and all the internet "popularity contests" surrounding them. Call me old fashioned (I'm old and entitled to the title)... but I don't think it's necessarily been the best thing for a lot of businesses... or for a lot of consumers for that matter either.
Reading this thread I can see there are quite a few 4J fanboys here, and at the risk of taking a bit of heat here I have to say that 4J deserves a bit of flack, here. First and formost is that they have catered to those whom have higher Youtube audiences and have even gone so far as to break things within minecraft to appease these, case in point is with minecarts, where 4J increased the speed of minecarts to appease a popular you tube rolllercoaster builder and returned the old speed, which in turn broke some mechanics, and increased lag into an already lagging game.
Second major issue I have is the lack of decent texture packs, catering to 'childish' ones like candy and cartoon, not since the natural texture pack has 4J given us something 'worth while', granted we don't have to pay for them. 4J awhile back tweeted that the number one texture pack used was in fact the natural pack. They have seen many people screaming for 'doku' like pack, but often falls on deaf ears.
Getting info on the internal workings of minecraft that different from its PC counterpart is like pulling teeth. For example, are all loaded chunks sent to clients that enter the game, is this why the xbox version seems to suffer from horrendous lag. It seems that this is the case in point as we have done alot of testing, and clients seem to suffer lag based on the number of chunks that are loaded, not based on a range of chunks around the given client.
In the case of mods and skin packs, i could care less, if i want mods I'll play on the PC, I knew from the start that player created mods would never exists on the xbox, allowing this would open the xbox to hacking, and system tampering. I do wish that 4J had chosen to make the game require the need of a hard drive so that chunk loading/unloading mechanics could have been implemented and thus perhaps supported bigger worlds, and at the very min improved lag.
Does 4J deserve to be mistreated because of their decisions, hell no, they have done a damn good job, but there is room for improvement.

Fair enough. Testing... internet or splitscreen or both scenarios?

Not if you have ad block plus and another app so view count dosen't count for you. They don't make a cent
4J only listening to popular people while the rest of the community stands helplessly by. I'm talking about things like Minecarts being twice the speed because roller coaster builders complained. Most of the community didn't want them to be fast because it lagged the game even more.
Now I have a great idea that would be a great addition to Minecraft, colored wooden planks (see my signature) but I doubt 4J could care less because I'm not popular nor have a 40,000+ sub YT channel.
Its not the youtubers that are making the hateful remarks, its the people in the comments. The people who are making the video make good videos, but lately...

the funny thing is, 4j blocked most of the big youtubers on twitter, people like OpryzeLP,BR3THR3N , and other xbox minecrafters and when/if they do reply from a tweet it seems the person is randomly chosen

More or less like they choose to answer a tweet that ALREADY questions a tweet they are about to post just so they can "look" like they care what we think.
ie. They are about to post a release to a new Texture pack, but decide to answer a tweet that says "when will a new texture pack come out?" They answer soon and a wekk later post news about it.

I used to call this "Tweeting EA style"
hmm, now that you mention that it does seem like that. they never answer my tweets at all regarding things like natural regeneration, but when someone tweeted about hows TU17 going they directly answered saying "our top priority is next gen. after that is released we will focus on adding features across all consoles. same for when someone asked about the upcoming cartoon texture pack

What really grinds my gears are the people who complain when they don't get every little new feature in a new update. I do however find it a little irritating that 4J does take a little long to come out with updates, but i can live with that really...
Oh and the thing that ESPECIALLY grinds my gears are the players who complain about creepers and want them removed from the game...
It would be really nice if they had someone at 4J able to take questions and get some solid answers, now obviously many questions can't be answered or at least not able to divulge some info, but there's alot of questions that wouldn't take someone whom was familiar with the code but a second to answer, questions like 'Does MC send all loaded chunks to all clients or only x chunks around given client', will we ever get a 'status like' display to clearly indicate biomes, chunk boundaries, entity counts and so on. Confirmation on features that will exists in the next update (before us having to wait till its nearly ready), bugs that they are aware of and are addressed as top priority, ect.
A PR rep so to speak, pretty much all mojang staff are constantly sharing thoughts and insights as they occur, and it keeps the PC community happy as they have means to stay uptodate with how things are developing. Console users are left in the dark, which is kinda sad given that its sales, combined are bigger then the PC version.
I totally understand that they don't want to put their foot in their mouth so to speak by saying something will be there, and then it fails to go though for some reason or another, but this type of info can be simply left unanswered or currently no info available, but ask again later. 4J seems to close themselves in a room, and give just enough tidbits to satisfy the hardcore fanboys.
Not much grinds my gears... I'm just tolerant I guess.
I do research most times of things that I do or want. Always observing at the same time. I guess you could say adapting, but with my own personal opinion being formed from what I do know or have done.
I am no fanboy/fangirl of 4J, but I do support and respect their decisions on most matters that they have mentioned. I am more a fan of the game than anything.
I guess what does grind gears to me is the PC vs. console thing. I am one to enjoy both in their own way, as is. Each plays a little differently. Even mobile I am sure would play differently as well in my view. There really is no reason to subject a game to a vs. war of any kind; as each has their benefits & disadvantages, if not drawbacks & perks. I guess I kind of take a middle ground/neutral ground on things; assessing what I read, hear, or find out.
So all in all I do my utmost to keep a cool head with an odd sense of humour.
