Hello all, I'm new to these forums as well as to the game of minecraft. I have been sleeping on this game for quite some time and recently got interest in it after I watched some minecraft hard core videos on YouTube. I have to say that this game is really fun but I'm having a problem!
My cows are fracking ninjas! They keep escaping from a seemingly secure pen. I'm either a huge newb (I am actually) but maybe it's a bug. I did a search and it seemed to be a bug but all the timestamps for the posts were like 2012 and 2013. Is this a know issue as of late?
Ps: I made my base right outside a desert village and the pen is made on sand...is that the issue?
This is kind of an ongoing issue. There's only a few things I can think of that might help.
1. Make your pens out of fences.
2. Make them less than a 20 block area so your animals don't despawn.
3. Sometimes it just looks like they've wandered through the fences. You can force a block update by placing a temporary torch inside the pen. Often this forces the game to recalculate where the animals are and they'll magically pop back into the pens.
Thanks for the reply man! I'll rearrange my fencing and see how that works out. 5x4 livestock area seems really small but if it stops despawning them I'll have to live with it.
The coding was changed on the console editions so that passive mobs that can't move more than 20 blocks won't despawn. That's the reasoning behind that. It doesn't necessarily have to be 5x4, you just need to make it so they can't move more than 20 blocks in a straight line.

Thanks ahead of time for the help! Happy mining!
