Does anyone use these? i read some outdated posts about them on PC and it sounded like they were in need of some alterations, but theres no way to know if we have that problem.

What problem? In response to your original question, yes I use enchanted books and I will probably use them more as soon as I finish my end farm. After that sentence, your post was very vague...

Yes plenty of people do use enchanted books. There are certain advantages and disadvantages to enchanted books as opposed to enchanting an item directly on the enchantment table.

Advantages-

1- you can put the enchantment into the book and use it on any item of choice
2- the books can be used to enchant items that are unable to be enchanted on the enchantment table, such as shears for silk touch.

Disadvantages-

1- Can only get one enchantment into the book when enchanting ( i think?)
2- Costs the same amount of exp to enchant a book as opposed to an item on the table

Advantages continued -
You can use enchanted books to get level five enchants
You can save your recourses until you can make the perfect item
Disadvantages continued -
much less likely to get the enchant you want
Cost levels to add them too an item

You would need a *puts on glasses* cracked anvil to use books (any kind of anvil)
