OK so I got all my villagers on the map in my new village. I have been trading and am trying to get as many emeralds as I can to get other stuff. I want to get diamonds (single diamonds for repair are preferred over diamond armor etc.) , chain mail armor, bottles of enchanting and anything else that I can only get from villager trading to 'complete' my world. But especially diamonds.
I have done a google search and utube but keep getting info for the PC update that has 11 different villagers or basic information for the TU-14 update that gave us villager trading.
I have not been offered the items I want for trade and have traded with several different villagers. Are these items (diamonds, chain mail armor, bottle of enchanting) only available in creative or PC? Is there other stuff I can get from trading that I can't get in survival?
You can only sell a diamond for emeralds, which is a horrible trade if you ask me. If you're going to look for a good blacksmith to get all trades unlocked from, look for one that has the diamond trade as the first or second trade. Because the further down the trade list, the more times you have to trade to unlock a new offer. It's better to just trade 1 diamond and get it over with than have the diamond trade near the middle or end and have to spend countless diamonds just to unlock the next offer.
OK I seem to have hit a wall now with trading. I have not been offered chain mail armor or some other stuff. I have traded lots and even gotten unneeded stuff like 2 diamond hoes, 4 diamond picks, 4 diamond swoonds. I already have a great set of tools so I just repair them instead of enchanting more. Some of the villagers are offering 1 emerald for 5 diamonds but that is just crazy so I don't want to waste my diamonds. Should I kill my villagers except for 6 or so and rebreed? I can make some lava traps to kill so the iron golems won't get upset.
Also it seems like villager trading is more for the beginning of a survival map. Finding a villager and getting diamond tools or cooked chicken early could be a real benefit then; especially in multiplayer. By the time I started villager trading I was already set with diamond tools armor etc. I have about 100 single diamonds and just use those for repair I also already have 4 juke boxes and 3 enchanting tables.
Chain is a rare offer, even rarer than diamond. Out of 50 blacksmiths I spawned, 5 offered a chain helemt as their first deal. If you want chain, then just get more blacksmiths. You could set up a breeder, and kill any villager that isn't a blacksmith.
They will eventually unlock all trades but it takes time. Like, a huge amount of time. Just keep trading the last offer one time. What I would do is use the wiki as a guide to see how far you have left to trade before everything for that villager is unlocked. You don't want to find out on your 50th trade that you won't unlock anything else.
Yeah, the blacksmith is the one that asks for diamonds. Just keep going through blacksmiths until you find one that has the diamond trade at the beginning of the trade list. That way the likely hood of getting that particular trade over with is high with just one trade.

yes thank you that is what I was looking for. OK so looks like buying single diamonds is not available but the other stuff is.
I hate those deals. Blacksmiths sell such good stuff, but all they ever offer me is diamond axes.
