Mooshrooms give
1- 5 red mushrooms
2- 0-2 pieces of leather
3- 1-3 pieces of raw beef
4- 1-3 pieces of cook beef (if killed with fire)
5- 1-3 experience orbs
6- Milk (if you use a bucket while alive)
7- Mushroom stew (if you use a bowl while alive) (stew is unlimited) (C.R.E.A.M. of mooshroom stew)
8- Mooshrooms are the only true minecraft animal
9- If you only have one mooshroom you can get infinite food with a bowl you can't do that with cows 10- mooshrooms can be found in mushroom biomes and are passive mobs
Cows give
1- are cute and should not be killed
2- cows are mans best friend
3- cows should be left to roam free on the plains
I think everyone can agree that mooshrooms should be used for farming and drops while our friends, the cows, should be feed lots of wheat and be left to roam the plains.

I automate the process and farm the heck outa mooshrooms, its a great biome where you should be able to get a crapload of meat real quick like. I just wish that 4J would fix the spawn system for them as its completely broken in that it will only ever spawn 2 of them, at which point you either breed them, or like me kill them and then have to wait for the next spawn cycle for 2 more to spawn.
I usually square up my mushroom biome, and then construct a large pool of water that funnels the mooshooms to the center where they drop down a 2 x 2 hole which has a lava blade that can be turned on/off for cooked/uncooked beef, the drop is about 20 blocks so they die on impact, above the pool I have several rows of grass with tripwires that will trigger a piston row to push the mooshroom that spawns on the grass into the pool of water below. in total i have about 2000 spawnable spaces for the farm. The are our primary food supply, and easily supplies 4 players with about 4 hours at the farm for several weeks.
Under the large pool of water we build a huge fully automated mushroom farm, which is way bigger then it needs to be as it easily surpasses the entity limit the 360 has imposed on it, however we rarely ever use mushrooms and thus the farm is more or less a waste of space, but does give the farm a much nicer look to it.

Yeah I can give you a tour of it, its nothing special to be honest, based loosly on enderman farm designs, only difference is the pool of water under the farm to stream the cows to a central fall tube.
I agree with WoodBlock, I kill everything I see including:
Iron Golems
Wolves
My own dogs
Ocelots
Wheat
Trees
Myself
And villagers when they look at me funny
I kill plants too. I kill villagers when they offer bad trades. Then the iron golems get mad, so I have to kill them too. I can never find ocelots, and I end up killing my own dogs,

Stay fluffy~
And since most worlds don't have mushroom biomes, then we kill cows.
