Im trying to decide whether or not i should be buying an xbox one or a New laptop, and one of the deciding factors for my choice is minecraft . Is Pc minecraft better by default than the xbox one version? I know that the Pc version is far ahead of the xbox currently. Also how many players can the pc hold on a single server? Cause i am very interested in the faction pvp.
Im leaning towards the new laptop currently given that i will be needing one real soon anyway, and its cheaper than $400-$500 for a brand new xbox =/
The PC version of Minecraft is and always will be better and ahead of any console versions of Minecraft. Servers on the PC can hold anywhere from 1 person to how ever many people it would take to crash the server. The console version offers ease of use when it comes to multiplayer and the interface but that's about it. Worlds, player limit, content, and pretty much everything is bigger and better on the PC version.
If you buy a laptop, keeo the requirements for Minecraft in mind.
Minimum Requirements:
CPU: Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 (K8) 2.6 GHz
RAM: 2GB
GPU (Integrated): Intel HD Graphics or AMD (formerly ATI) Radeon HD Graphics with OpenGL 2.1
GPU (Discrete): Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT or AMD Radeon HD 2400 with OpenGL 3.1
HDD: At least 200MB for Game Core and Other Files
Java 6 Release 45
Recommended Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon II (K10) 2.8 GHz
RAM: 4GB
GPU: GeForce 2xx Series or AMD Radeon HD 5xxx Series (Excluding Integrated Chipsets) with OpenGL 3.3
HDD: 1GB
Latest release of Java 7 from java.com
If you already have a 360, then get the laptop. That way, you can play on both. Personally, I would go with the Xbox one. Pc has more features, but I've always liked playing on Xbox better.
Pick whichever system you prefer to play on, becuase you'll enjoy minecraft either one.

The PC is probably the better option. As bloodyPhoenix says the PC has all the features (1.8 update and large map sizes). It supports modding, command blocks and custom skins.
Console is great and I only play minecraft on XBOX (little bit on iPAD)but in my opinion PC minecraft is better than console minecraft. Judging from reading the postings, watching many many youtube vids and game play.
Unless you have young children and prefer the control and limitations of console...

Bear in mind that Mojang's recommend reqs don't necessarily address the issue that 1.7.x version need to be seriously optimized--an issue that's not really an issue at all with console editions right now. Those specs Mojang list will get you started, but if you want to have a nice time of it, and not stress over Java crashes, get something with a better CPU than what in the recommended reqs. Definitely get a 64-bit sytem with HD graphics card, but you'd probably want to do a bit of research of what's on the market right now and get a system that has a better CPU than what's listed there.
That said, if you don't want to deal with all the headaches of a Java platform game, get Xbox One. Aside from more content--some of which will be added to the Xbox One edition down the line--the main advantage right now with PC is that you can get a better CPU than what Mojang recommends, and honestly if I had the money I would upgrade my PC immediately. I have a desktop that meets those recommended reqs and in my vanilla 1.7.9 games I deal with lag and low fps rates all the time. In my modded 1.6.4 games, I have to use Optifine to get a stable fps rate of ~50. And that's with all other programs closes, more memory assigned to Minecraft and Java set to a higher priority in WIndows Task Manager. I also have the Xbox 360 version--vastly more user friendly.
I won't be getting an Xbox One because I already have the PC version and I want the content and mods bad enough to hassle with its Java achilles heel. And moreover Xbox One doesn't have any titles upcoming that I want enough to justify getting it. But that's just my situation. Do what is best for you. Just remember--the whole point of gaming is to enjoy it, so go with whichever platform that will do that for you.

I just love it reading these types of threads and the crap that some people actually throw out there, specifically the post above this one.
Seriously, I mean you belittle the xbox and tell him to get a ps4 in the xbox section, piece of advice, careful what you type else you could insite a flame war.
Like most here I own the xbox 360 version, and would have went one right away if it had been backwards compat. Yes the xbox one version will still be behind the PC version but thats not to say it won't seriously outpreform most PC builds, and easilly put the 360 version to shame in respects to how the game behaves. In time the console version will only be a verison or so behind the PC, and there it will stay.
The PC version is NOT all that everyone cracks it up to be, and you'll need a crapload more then 4gb of ram if you plan to play with mods, chunk loaders, ect. PC MC eats ram like there's no tomorrow. My PC has 16gb of ram, and generally sits at around 86% of ram used most times, however I am currently playing a heavy mod instal. PC servers are not all that they are cracked up to be as well, most don't feature any sort of 'allow you to build' on them, except in what is known as 'free build areas' where anyone can come along and trash your crap. You can 'acquire' land but usually requires, clicking adds, or donating to the server.
When I do go to the next console, I'm going xbox, not because its better then the ps4, but because sony to me is laiden full of lies, but thats my own opinion of the company.
What you must also take into effect here is the 'future'. The one downside to the PC is that it goes out date pretty damn fast, and while your at the gaming store your constantly asking yourself if this game will run on my PC without it requiring some type of upgrade, where you never need to ask this when purchasing games for the console.
Thus there are pros and cons to each ie the PC or console, and really it depends on you. I'm not sure where your getting a laptop for under 400$, and it would be wize to research the components within to see where they currently stand against the newest top end stuff.
The release for the xbox one/ps4/vita is just around the corner, and I suspect that soon 4J will begin tweeting about the next update to spark interest in MC one again.
I own both(360 & pc editions). Like many have mentioned there are pros/cons to each. I really like Cire360's comparison. Which is pretty much on the dot, minus the personal opinion of sony.
I really like the console version for how smooth it runs most the time. While the pc, which is my laptop that did cost roughly 399, is just a little above the minimum mentioned in this thread. I have more ram than that, and more than enough space for the game. I pretty much have to have optifine installed in order just to get 15-32 fps. I don't mind playing in that, but won't play that as much as the 360 version.
I would say the controller would be benefit, but you can play on the pc with a conroller, albeit a little awkward at times. I usually end up using the mouse keyboard for certain things like inventory management. But I can still play in the very least.
It might be a tough decision, but look at it from another angle, like the game base that each offers. If you see enough beyond minecraft for the One, then the system might be worth it. (Can say the same of the PS4) There are lots of games already on the pc so the game base for that is endless in a manner of speaking. I mainly mention game base for the consoles primarily, as games tend to run smooth on a console most times. "designed to work on"
So the choice really weigh and look at what each benefit & drawback of each are carefully. After all there are more than just games to be considered, even on console. Services too. But if already having a computer then draw what you need in cost to run and play each. the consoles are more of a flat rate than pc, but it is what you can afford or willing to get for gaming in general.
I find each fills a niche in gaming, therefore choose upon you own interests in how you want to play.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I just love it reading these types of threads and the crap that some people actually throw out there, specifically the post above this one.
Seriously, I mean you belittle the xbox and tell him to get a ps4 in the xbox section, piece of advice, careful what you type else you could insite a flame war.Sorry, but Im a Playstation boy. I could say some things about microsoft, but I dont want to risk a flame war infraction. I only go on the xbox forums because the ps3 forums are more dead than the xbox seed request page.
Like most here I own the xbox 360 version, and would have went one right away if it had been backwards compat. Yes the xbox one version will still be behind the PC version but thats not to say it won't seriously outpreform most PC builds, and easilly put the 360 version to shame in respects to how the game behaves. In time the console version will only be a verison or so behind the PC, and there it will stay Uh, not really, the PC version wont stop updated so we can play catch up. I think we will have pc 1.8 before we get TU17 (aka 1.4.2) so I doubt we will ever catch up.
RAM isnt everything either, you could have 400GB of RAm and still have a lot of usage if your CPU, GPU, and video card are crap. PC servers are not all that they are cracked up to be as well, most don't feature any sort of 'allow you to build' on them, except in what is known as 'free build areas' where anyone can come along and trash your crap. You can 'acquire' land but usually requires, clicking adds, or donating to the server. Have you ever played a real survival/factions server? in non faction survival servers you get a golden shovel. you get 200 blocks to claim as your base, so for example a 10x20 area. The more you play, the more claim blocks you get to claim more land. eventually you may be able to claim an area with a 500 sq meter area. The only people who can build/destroy/use chests there is anyone you give /trust to in that claim. And faction claiming is self explanatory...No donating required for either option or ad clicking. What kind of server do you play on?
When I do go to the next console, I'm going xbox, not because its better then the ps4, but because sony to me is laiden full of lies, but thats my own opinion of the company.

My responses in bold
In my opinion, he should keep the 360 for other games and use the laptop just for minecraft and school.
Also, words of advice with a laptop: get a USB mouse..it will make minecraft easier to play

Most laptops that cost $400 will be riddled with malware and will put in subpar hardware components to make up for the higher end components. The software/malware will most likely be software mandatory to maintain a service contract if you buy it from a chain store.
That being said, the real question is... what are your other uses for your laptop? Is it only a Minecraft PC or is it your main PC as well? Do you use it for things that require some privacy?
Is mobility an issue? Do you always play on the laptop in one spot or do you like to move around the house or take it with you to play elsewhere?
Do you play vanilla Minecraft or do you use mods or your own skins? If those are important to you, then PC is your only choice. At the same time, it makes your PC more susceptible to malware and viruses packaged within those mod/skin packs. If malware and viruses are a concern, then console is your best choice... especially if you have a lot of personal data on your laptop.
The Xbox One is a great console, especially with the Kinect sensor... but it will always be behind what PC Minecraft can offer as far as updates. At the same time, it will have a more secure environment because you can't install uncertified mods.
What it boils down to is... whether you buy a new laptop or a Xbox One, what else will you be doing with it?

its called Avast! free antivirus ...
also, those laptops arent riddled with malware when you buy them...stores would be sued if they were...they come with a 30 day free trial of mcafee, so that would detect the malware wouldnt it? YOU end up putting malware on computers. not the store..Also, i do agree with the sub par hardware, but not everyone has 2000 dollars to dish out for a gaming pc..some people are middle class on this planet and some are third/lower class

I use Avast! and have it installed on every PC in my house, but no anti-virus program is infallable. Only a fool would think that. As someone that has been contracted for company-wide virus infections, I can assure you that root kit viruses can render anti-virus software obsolete. Also, anti-virus software usually does nothing with malware. I use MalwareBytes and even then I need to use a couple other programs to weed out as much as possible... and still never get it all.
Your definition of malware differs from mine. My father bought a laptop from CompUSA and they install their own version of "Windows Defender", which I consider malware because of the stupid and useless ads, popups, and alerts that come with it. I'd much rather install software I trust, than have someone force feed me their crap just to maintain a service contract.

yes, i know that, but if you have some sort of protection you will have LESS problems, but still a rare problem. Did you see my later edits?

Less problems? The viruses that your anti-virus don't catch are usually the ones that require you to completely reinstall the OS to eliminate the problem. That's actually worse off than you were before... and that doesn't even include the viruses that reside in your RAM. I've rebuilt PCs that were infected only to have them come back a week later because they were broadcasting private medical data across the network.

Well, while it may be less problems in number, they are generally more severe problems...nature of the beast i guess. I never really had problems in that terms of way with computers from walmart. all the adware, malware, and viruses that my current desktop has came from me downloading cracked launchers and mods and falling for "surveys" and stuff for "free" codes to stuff... Now my computer will even BSOD in SAFE MODE!!!!.. But I do see what you mean. Would you consider that McAfee / Norton antivirus trials that come preinstalled malware too?
BSOD= Bluescreen of death

McAfee and Norton Anti-Virus trials often come with Malware, as well... usually useless toolbars that steal your browsing history and spam your email. Java also comes with Malware... sometimes a McAfee install other times a toolbar. You have to be cautious not to just accept all default value and click "Next" on everything on an install package. Sometimes you even have to customize the install or go to advanced options to find the malware contained within the package by default and uncheck the box next to it to not install it.
The best things in life are free... and usually contain malware.
To me, anything that I don't actually use, runs in the background, uses my data, or uses up my resources without my knowledge... is all malware.
as know ones played the xboxone version yet i dont know how you can expect a fare answer ?
There is no "fair answer" even if we were playing the Xbox One version because everything boils down to preference and other uses for whichever platform he chooses. We can tell him that the Xbox One version is great until we're blue in the face, but the fact of the matter is that may be true for us, but not him and his situation... different strokes for different folks.

But if already having a computer then draw what you need in cost to run and play each. the consoles are more of a flat rate than pc, but it is what you can afford or willing to get for gaming in general.
I find each fills a niche in gaming, therefore choose upon you own interests in how you want to play.
My responses in bold
In my opinion, he should keep the 360 for other games and use the laptop just for minecraft and school.
Also, words of advice with a laptop: get a USB mouse..it will make minecraft easier to play

BSOD= Bluescreen of death
