an animal wont despawn if its in 20blocks sq i brlieve. keep it small n it works if you have troubles or wanta friend that plays often add dead4youzombie l
Im starting to have the same issue. It looks like they are crowding against the fence an end up pushing one up on the fence then they get out. Im trying a 2 high fence; just built it an hour ago. There are buildings around and no room for a second line of fences.
Well to be fair you do need to farm cows for leather to make books and sheep for wool.
Make a second fence 2-3 blocks away from first, while they so drones glitch through one fence they are technically still inside it, if you interact with they they jump back into the pen.
Rarely one will be pushed into a corner and forced over the fence, the second fence not only keeps these contained but also makes it less likely they will escape when entering the pen.
...or raid a stronghold for books and make a sky exp farm that can give me like 7 stacks of each drop in like 10 minutes cuz it brings em down to half a heart to punch to death for exp and use spider string to make wool..i have like 7 or 8 stacks of string on my survival island with no sheep on it..thats almost 2 stacks of wool
