I play survival on hard difficulty and i find its still too easy. I wish there was an extreme survival mode where resources would be rare and hard to obtain. I think there is way too much iron, coal, redstone, trees, food, etc. I only feel challenged the first 10 minutes of the game when im scrambling to find food and armor. After that there is no real challenge. Anyone else agree?
I somewhat have to agree with the OP, I do wish there was ways to disable auto healing, so that one can only heal via golden apples, or potions, as well as to be able to turn certain recipes/enchantments off, as well as the ability to 'scale' up the damage and HPS for mobs.
For every person that says it's too "easy" there's 5+ people that say it's too hard (dumb, ugly, etc.) and gave up on it.
Sounds like you've played way too much MC for way too long. Time to move on.
I think the small worlds on the Xbox actually create an opportunity for something like this to get implemented. As was pointed out, we already can get some brutally hard all ocean biome seeds (i.e. no trees to get started with) that cannot be expanded by walking out farther and farther. If a seed spawns with no trees (and you don't put in a bonus chest), the your only source of wood will be abandoned mineshafts and since ocean biomes don't spawn animals, your food sources are also very limited. There is no way that surviving on this sort of world can be described as too easy! Unless you're lucky enough to find a mineshaft in the first day, death on hard by the end of the first night is highly probable. Another biome that presents some unique challeges is all snow and an all desert biome would be neat (although I've not yet generated a world that was all desert).
If the world generation could be set to enable the intentional creation of very lopsided worlds, as far a biomes go, then the style of play in survival could be dictated by these worlds. If another option could be added to change the ratios of ore generation (ie making resource generation more scarce) and drops (i.e. making them more rare) another level of difficulty could emerge as well. It's an intriguing idea.

If anyone thinks this game is hard they must be 5 year olds lol
Try beating the dragoness without ever using a Crafting Table.
It's possible, and you shouldn't complain about ease until you do that.
The dragon is no challenge either. All i would need is arrows. I can easily get that without a crafting table. Then i harvest wheat and trade for emeralds until the priest gives me eyes of ender and xp potions. Then enchant a level 30 bow. I can trade for armor as well. This is not challenging, its more time consuming.

Then try this: Beat the dragon without trading, crafting or using a pickaxe. And play on hard. Once you die, you aren't allowed to reclaim your items. That way, you can play "First night" over and over again.
That's a cool idea. Another idea is to try and defeat the dragon without using a pickaxe.

All the steps i previously described involved no pickaxe lol
Later updates that are ported from PC will add some features that make the game a bit harder, such as mobs spawning with gear, skeletons having their range increased and fire faster as you get closer, Zombies having a gigantic aggro range and spawn more Zombies off screen when damaged, etc.

Don't say that! Minecraft is actually one of those games that are actually fun and not just one of those lame old games! I think your just jealous of him!

Then I'll make it harder. You must play on hard, and you're only allowed to eat rotten flesh. You need to defeat the enderdragon, without trading, or using a pickaxe. But, to enter the end, you have to be wearing a full set of iron armor. The only things you can craft are a workbench, eyes of ender, the armor, and a furnace. That's it. You can't craft buckets, tools, or food. When you die, you must start completely over.
Its not a big deal to add a 'hardcore' mode to game difficulty, which would turn off natural regeneration, and apply a 2x or 4x magnifying effect to mobs hps/damage.
Seriously guys we need to lay off with the 'Go play PC version then' comments, some ideas have merit and not one of us here doesn't have any ideas or things that they would like to see added to the game, be it something brand new, or already existing on the PC version. If you had an idea, or perhaps something negative to vent about the game, and your input is pounded with such comments you wouldn't be all that happy.
In respects to ocean biomes, been there, done that, have a seed with a very small island, 1 tree, 2 flowers, and 3 pieces of grass, and while it does pose a bit of a challenge, its more so of a 'getting started' deal, lots of zombie flesh eating, and alot of caving, but not real difficult once one goes underground. All I did was cave for the first 2 or 3 mc days, killing and saving zombie flesh for my primary food source, once I surfaced, a simple mob farm provided me with plenty of flesh, at around 12h in I found melon seeds, and my food problem was solved. In one respects its difficult because theres not much resources above to work with, but on the other hand, its EXTREMELY easy to secure a base, expanding land as needed.

If i cant craft a bow how will i shoot the ender dragon? Throw eggs at it? lol
I like the transition from hard survival to the building stage where I have armor and stuff so I can build. But yea I would like some increase in difficulty without making artificial rules.
I have been joining other peoples games in survival and playing for a couple of days to help them get started. That gives me the fun of the new map experience.
You can create a war area. Im taking an abandoned mineshaft with 8 mob spawners and creating a war area for epic mob battles.
I do wish there was less iron and more gold though, hardly found any in my current world.
A mode that doesn`t exist on Xbox 360 is tough to play on.

Also if i cant mine iron then why would i need a furnace? lol
