Hey so if I click on a villager to trade and I don't have what he wants in my inventory can I go over to a chest and get a stack of wheat or something and come back and he still have the trade I wanted?

Yes. Each villager will keep the same trade. The only time the trade will disapeer is when you've done that same trade around 7 times. When you trade their last offer, they will refresh their trade list and offer a new trade, as well as bring back some of the old ones.
i find the items you guys sell to the villagers interesting. I don't know if i am just lucky but in my current world i have about three maybe more librarians who offer emeralds for like 24 pieces of paper. This is pretty covenient considering sugar cane can be grown quite fast and easily, not to mention you can grow a ton at a single time without being established on the map.
Just a thought for those who may not have considered going into the sugar cane business =-)
This is a great idea. I like to sell books because it gives me a market for extra leather -- and I have a ton of it. Sugar cane is a great resource. Only problem is you need to be in the area for it to grow at a reasonable rate. I keep a cane farm in my bigger villages, so when I'm there visiting and trading and harvesting wheat, it grows. I have no extreme biomes in my world, so the only emeralds I get are via trading.
