I like the way iron armor looks. Of course I feel the need to use diamond but I don't like the way diamond armor looks. I just posted something here for what I think should be done with armor. You know, to put the spice back in the different varieties.
I like leather armor. It is usually my first armor and looks cool with my skin. Once I can get iron and diamond I upgrade but I keep a leather set for special occasions. How do you dye leather armor?
In my survival worlds, I've got a fight suit and a casual suit. For my fight suit, I wear a diamond chest-plate and boots, and iron pants and helmet. My casual suit is just leather armor that I dye blue and green.
Diamond obviously.
The real question is which is better: leather or gold?
As far as items go, leather has way more durability. Gold armor, on the other hand, actually has more durability than leather plus it a high enchantability for some cool enchantments. I say Gold armor is better than leather.
But in reality, it's highly dependant. For my own world, I tend to not wear anything at all, even when hunting; for my Superflat, I go with nothing more than a Golden Helmet because Zombie Pigmen drop them like mad; most survival worlds with uncontrolled mob spawn will have me in iron, minus the helmet; PvP is whatever the best I can get is.
I think it's safe to say that diamond will almost always come out on top in this argument. Granted it's hard to find enough diamond to kit yourself out in a full set, but when you do, there's not a lot that can hurt you, even before you've enchanted it.
Leather armour is good, but not great. Admittedly I was taken in by the new idea of being able to dye each piece a different colour for whatever purposes each player decides it is necessary for, but it's not incredibly useful. At the end of the day, dyed leather armour is just... well... dyed leather armour. It won't protect you very well, it has a low durability, and it almost seems a waste to place any decent enchantments on it. Combine it with the idea that choosing a character skin makes the dying system rather redundant, unless you're making a video or a let's play.
Gold armour... Well, the less said about that, the better!
Iron armour is the ideal middle ground; it's cheap enough to build a set without making a sizable dent in your iron ingot supply, it protects you well enough to shrug off an otherwise fatal Creeper encounter, and its durability lets you hold your own in many battles. Like with leather armour, I feel enchanting iron armour is a little pointless, as if you've already got an enchantment table which can enchant items to level 30 then you're likely to be sitting on a slightly envious pile of diamonds and other loot as it is...
I kinda feel that gold armor has a huge enchantment advantage over all other materials but only for certain enchantments. All enchantments that rely on durability are out; protection of all types. Where gold has the edge is non-durability using enchants like aqua affinity, respiration, and feather falling. Those enchantments would have a higher chance of popping up on gold armor plus they wouldn't use up the items durability! Really only useful for SSP but highly effective for any application other than armor to protect yourself...
First post here, I like iron for the look, just can't stand the look of diamond. Have not found any chain mail armor yet. Where is the best place to find it?
I'm going to have to say, in survival, I like diamond. I know it is rare but if I'm lucky, there will be a few blacksmiths who trade diamond then it's fairly easy to obtain. Otherwise I like leather because it is the easiest to obtain and the fact I can make it different colors.
Well, I don't generally wear armor, besides maybe leather for the heck of it, I'd say it's a dead tie between iron armor and leather armor. I like leather armor because it's easily renewable, easy to obtain once you get yourself set up with cattle and such, it seems less strange to be walking around towns being just as heavily armored as a guard, might as well be dress more like a civilian (I dunno, it just feels strange to me...) and it is dye-able which can make it more unique in appearance.
Iron does provide more protection, and it is kinda cool as well. Iron also looks a bit more impressive when you have a small guard force/army in full suits of iron as well.

Iron. Diamond is better, but eventualy it breaks and I'm back to iron anyways. Despite my avatar, I rarely craft diamond armor unless I have a good surplus of diamonds. I rather use diamonds for tools and weapons. (And I lost that set of diamond armor in my avatar literally within an hour of taking that screenshot, falling into lava in the Nether. I wear iron armor in that game now.).

- Leather, although weak, can be dyed to what ever color you want.
- Gold is highly enchantable due to its raw material, gold.
- Chain mail is cool because it's rare; plus it looks cool.
- Iron is pretty durable and easily obtained.
- And of course diamond is the strongest of all the armor available.
So what's your favorite? The real question is which is better: leather or gold?

Stay fluffy~
