I noticed that when I killed a wolf none of the other wolves in the area became hostile. I figured it was because I was on Peaceful. So I tested it. I punched one of the wolves and the rest attacked me.
Then I realized that when I killed the wolves with my sword I was killing them with only one hit.
Does that mean that if you kill a wolf with one hit, it doesn't count as "hurting" it?
I guess I hadn't noticed this before and was just wondering if it was new, broken, or just something I missed.
I figured I would check to see if anyone verify it before posting it in the bug reports.
I've seen too many "That's the way it is on the PC" replies. heh
This trait is actually seen with silverfish. When you "hurt" one it calls for its buddies but if you kill it with one hit it doesn't have a chance to. That's one of the precautions when dealing with silverfish; if you're going to attack it make sure you can kill it with one hit. I think it's as intended and not a bug. I don't think there's a sword powerful in the world to test this out on zombie pigmen but you would think that the same principle applies.
That's what I was wondering: Is it a bug or "feature".
I originally thought it was a bug because none of the other wolves were turning hostile. Then I realized that I was killing them with one hit.
I didn't know that about silverfish. Good thing to keep in mind. Thanks
I am no expert in MCX360, but in PC, when you kill a silverfish in one hit, it won't make nearby silverfish blocks turn into silverfish themselves. As stated previously, I don't know much about MCX360 but I assume that the feature carries over. I didn't know that it also worked for wolves. I may test it out right now. Kind regards, Ivya

You don't need a powerful sword to kill a pigman in one hit. Get them to take fall damage, then kill them in one hit, that should be a sufficient test. Also, I believe people who have gold farms actively test this out everytime they havest their loot. Can anyone with a gold farm confirm if all the nearby pigmen become hostile when you kill a pigman in one hit?

I don't know about the 360, but I have a 21-attack sword on a modded PC version that one-hits them, and they do all become angry there.
Since Pigmen get angry at innocent people as well when attacked, I think that killing them does aggro them.
I'll get to testing this tomorrow...

You are correct. I've one-hit-killed zombie pigmen and it agros all of them. I have tested out killing wolves with one-hit and it works the same way it does with silverfish; if it's one hit they can't call for help. I guess zombie pigmen are the only ones that call for help regardless if you kill them with one hit or not.
