Hi All,
I know I have seen this answered before but I cant find the topics now when I need them.
What has happened is I cant seem to find any chickens. (Actually I can hear one but I dont know where it is, lol, more about that in my posting).
I started this world just after TU14 was released and wanted a blank map (due to emeralds and temples on my old maps).
However with the escaping and suffocating problems for friendly mobs, I decided not to build a chicken farm just yet.
Anyways so after the TU16 update I confirmed my other mobs farms are working as expected and so I wanted now to populate the chicken farm. Alas I cannot seem to find chickens. I killed a chicken right at the start after I spawned because I needed food, now I am regretting it.
I do not want to wander around the whole map looking for chickens, because that would pre-generate the chunks. But realising I need to do something I turned auto-save off. Walking off in one direction, exploring that area, reloading my game and trying different directions without saving. Still very unlucky and no chickens.
My question is I would like to de-spawn and re-spawn all friendly wild (not farmed) mobs. In other words make the game regenerate the wild friendly mobs.
I have tried the following
1. Restarting the game (duh).
2. Walking in one direction for the entire map (Eg more than 128 blocks for hostile mob despawn).
3. Visit the nether to see if it changes the overworld
4. Reset the nether and visited the nether to see if it reset after that.
There is one chicken I can hear while climbing on the side of a mountain which is my base. I cannot find the chicken but I can hear it and I know which spot has the loudest clucking noises. If I can locate that chicken I can fence it, get eggs and hatch a breeding pair....
I wonder if you can find that chicken in a small cave. Sometimes shallow caves have a grass floor, and chickens may spawn. Before the fix, I only found one chicken, on the edge of a jungle. I fenced him and collected eggs and built a herd (flock?) from there. But since the update, chickens have been spawning away, as long as i keep my penned populations under max.
I kill all the other animals at night. I bring a bow and look in strange places especially when spending time around mountains and ravines. Before morning arrives and I've killed as many animals that I could I head to my animal pin and wait for the sun to rise. Passive mobs start to spawn around the chucks closest to me. I start to explore the area and once I have found a chicken I use seeds to lure it into the pin. I would do this until I found another chicken so I could breed them. I did this with all my animals and now I have more than enough. If I need food I only kill and breed them at night. I have a fire aspect and looting sword so I get plenty of cooked meat.

Thanks for the help.
Feedback as follows:
* Reloading in peaceful did not significantly alter the passive mobs I saw.
* I found the chicken I could hear but not see. He was trapped on a block which was not easily visible.
* I then captured the chicken and it took only 3 eggs to get a baby chick, so my farm is now in full production.
* I did not try NiahTrujillo's idea of killing passive mobs at night and then going back to the farm area to wait for sunrise.
* Gamer_games12, i was avoiding creative as I still want leaderboard stats.
Thanks for all your help wolfeuk, getbent824, NiahTrujillo and Gamer_games12.
I know your problem has been solved, but I'd like to add one bit of advice.
On XBox, animals who can't walk more then 20 blocks in any direction stop despawning, because of this you often get animals stuck on small 1x1 ledges on the sides of ravines and mountains who won't despawn. These stuck animals will prevent new animals from spawning, sometimes they can also prevent you from breeding your animals. Killing these animals is the best thing to do.

Brilliant thank you PixelDaises... Makes sense that they are trapped, dont despawn and then the game does not generate more peaceful mobs. I have a lot of extreme biome near my base and all kinds of animals are stuck on pillars or on the edges of cliffs

What else can I do?
Fantastic idea! I will try this evening!
Dig baby dig. You'll find it.
Unless it's a ghost chicken.
