Greetings all. If I recreate a world using a seed that was generated on an older version of MCX360, will the newly created world be exactly as it was on the original version? For example, I have a seed that was generated on TU12 that I really like. If I recreate it on TU16, will the terrain and minerals be exactly the same? Or will it now have features that are available in TU16, like emeralds, etc?
Some sections of the map may be the same, but others will have changed... though the nether/end will always be the same for some odd reason. i've tried that method myself a few times to check biomes on my seed that i've been working on for over a year and a half now, but the seed looks almost completely different now that we've had 9 updates since the map was created (november 26th, 2012).
Think of the seed string as a whole number and the terrain generation in Version X as one formula and the terrain generation in Version Y as a different formula. Plugging the same number into two different formulae wlli yield two different results... Answer, even though you use the same seed string, Version TU1 or TU9 or whatever version has a different terrain generation formula than TU16 does now. For instance, biomes and structures have been added since that time. The map that will get generated will not be the same as the map generated using the same seed string in earlier versions, although not everything will be changed since parts of the formula(e) would have likely remained unchanged over that time.
Thanks DM, UpUp...your detailed explanations are appreciated. I recreated the world last night and confirmed the surface topography is the same as in TU12, however, there are some differences in features. I found a dungeon and mob spawner in the new world where none had been previously. I assume there will also be differences in the location, amount, and type of minerals found. Will report back if I notice anything else exceptional. Thanks again!
