Since I think 1.6 added the ability to stack snowcaps, I really want 4J to add an option to turn off ice/snow melting. Ice caps are very handy for making furniture.
Nice summary, you missed coal blocks though. And please no more unattended griefing by the game, the villagers change to witches when struck by lightning is one change we can do very much without. Villagers allready diappear without any concrete reason we don't need another possible reason they can go poof. If anything we need options to turn unattended griefing off.
IMHO hopper and redstone block implies; dropper, comparator and repeater locks.
Wouldn't it be awesome if they decided to pull 1.7.10 forward as a surprise at the same time... /dreaming mode off
RE: Coal Blocks - Gah... I thought I put that in there, nice catch, I added it.
RE: "IMHO hopper and redstone block implies; dropper, comparator and repeater locks."
I was originally thinking along the same lines and was going to list it that way... but I ended up wanting the implies to be somewhat more 'direct' implications. I don't know... I was really waffling on that one about where it should be listed. In the end... I pretty much flipped a coin.
RE: "Wouldn't it be awesome if they decided to pull 1.7.10 forward as a surprise at the same time... /dreaming mode off"
LOL, Yeah, but in 1.7.2 a LOT of biomes were added as well as how the seed generator worked. that would make waiting for the next update take a LOT longer.... but at least we would likely be done with drastic Biome Shifts for the really near future....

I had to research this:
Java v. 1.5 (13w05a) Snow can be crafted and is obtainable in survival mode. It is possible to stack snow to create layers thicker than 1.
... and it looks like this was confirmed in a pre-release teaser on October 14th that it seems like everyone missed:
This is some pretty good info . And dirt slabs ... Could be useful ...
Could be... but Mojang actually yanked them from from the design when they were playing around with them in the Java version, and it never came back... so I'm not sure if this would be console specific material... or just an optical illusion... or maybe some other sort of (maybe wooden) slab...
I'm just not certain enough about the image to say for certainty that they appear to be dirt slabs, and the fact that they don't exist in vanilla MC makes me leery to assume that they are.
But IF it is a slab (of any sort), I'm impressed if that is a layer of snow covering it within the same block space. (which is typically not allowed in the game for 2 block ID's to co-exist in the same physical space).
I think it might just be an optical illusion... I think that the spruce tree in the background might have a 2x2 block base, which just makes the blocks behind it seem to have a half-slab profile. If that is a legitimate 2x2 spruce tree, then that would have been pulled forward from : Java v. 1.7.2 (13w36a) 2×2 Spruce trees, Dark Oak trees, and Acacia trees added.
looks like a 1x1 tree to me.. Snow slabs for certain in that screen shot, but dirt slabs; I just don't see it. The only dirt I see is the natural blocks that have the snow texture on them, which is in the pc edition as well. At least I think is the case.
The reason I say that tree is 1x1 is due to fact that tree is closer than the one to mid left. And the one to the far left is even closer than the one with the snow layer in front. It is a depth perception thing I believe.
Although nice to see layers in snow being presented.:)

It doesn't appear closer than the tree to the mid left to me... in fact if you draw a straight line at the base of the tree trunks across, they appear to be on the same Y axis and at roughly the same distance away.
The shelf of dirt blocks right behind the circled tree have to low of a profile for how closely behind they are to it for them to look like full blocks IF the tree trunk is 1x1, but if it is 2x2, then the dirt blocks would be about the right height for this angle of view.
i think it's the snow that is making the dirt block look like a half slab. and i see a 1x1 tree but it could have just been a randomly generated 1x1 tree.

Still don't see the dirt slab thing. I am probably going to agree with Minecrafttinlikecrazy here that it could be the snow that is causing the illusion or something like that.
As for the size comment. I didn't say from each other in perspective, even if that is where the conclusion came from. Sure they are roughly the same 1x1 block distance away from each other; that is apparently 3 blocks. Easy to see if you look at the snow and count.
What I meant of perspective is the player, the character view, not the trees relation to each other. Of course that in it self proves my point. The angle of the shot makes things to the player closer to the character than what is in the background somewhat bigger. That is depth of view. Also just looking at the snow layer, which is apparently 1x1 in the screen shot and the tree it is next to, you can obviously see the snow layer is of the same size or width of the tree base. drawing the squares from the snow layer to the tree to the far left you'll see that that also is the same width.
I was looking at the whole picture for a bit and that is how I came to my conclusion of the size of trees. They are not 2x2, at least not in that photo. They are normal size of 1x1. So in essence it is point of view, with depth of field in mine. Depth perception, where things closer will appear bigger than the things further away. The starting point of depth being the character itself; or the screens camera view. I say the latter bit due to fact the camera would be based near the head region of the character and not on the ground where the feet are.
Anyway make of it what you will but that is how I see it and have come to my conclusion as I have said.

I think you're right... I'm just having a hard time convincing myself of it. Looking at the snow layers in relation to the base of the tree next to it helps.
So I think the only thing we can safely assume from this screen shot is that Snow Layers are very likely going to be added to the next update. I don't seen anything else that I can be absolutely certain of in this...

I don't use much redstone, but I cannot deny the uses for Daylight Sensors and Hoppers. I can use both in creative builds. Also, firework stars and beacons <333333333 I want this update so bad.
Firework stars and beacons ... They've been seen in previous posts ... Along with Daylight Sensors and Hoppers .
But Comparators are new ... And could VERY prove useful , weighted pressure plates ... Could be ... Alright ... TNT Carts , they are cool .
The more I stare at the image ... I see strange things in the background such as (NOTE : THESE ARE THE THINGS I CAN NOT CONFIRM , AS THEY AREN'T CLEAR ENOUGH) :
The Wither or a giant .
Banners
I swore I saw something else ... But I can't find it again ...
I'm aware, but as someone who doesn't use much redstone I was pointing out stuff I can use to build with.

I can see the things in the background as well. they are basically shadows. there are about four of them in total in the same general area, the one on the far right is a horse I was able to tell. I'm not sure what the closest one is. It could possibly be giants for a console edition exclusive as giants are technically already on the Xbox via mods apparently. I'll try and see later if I can at least identify the other shadows in the pic. Unfortunately the others seem far harder to tell, and I was only able to identify the horse shadow because it was in the shape of a horse upon closer examination.
Yay! More redstone stuff! I need to watch videos and see how to make things when the update comes out. Very excited, about everything really...I need the update now!
IMHO your reading way to much into shadows and making 'guesses' which is a bad thing when it comes to the coming TU. We've all learned that guesses is not really so wise, which leads to rumors and first thin you know things spiral out of control. We know that the wither has been confirmed already, lets just leave it at that.
What I really get a kick outa is the habit here, everyone is DIEING for this update (as was the last update), and once it arrives, nasty bugs often show there face, which leads to many bashing 4J, screaming at them that they should have taken more time to bug test, ect. Its a nasty kludge for 4J.
Its nice to see the redstone update showing its face however, and I also see minecart tracks placed over top of a hopper which brings up the question of is sneak going to be used to place blocks now instead of accessing its GUI?

Specifically, you want to look very closely in the upper left corner where there is a variation in the levels of the snow layers:
Especially, look right in front of the Spruce tree...
Man... It sure looks like dirt slabs in the background behind that tree too... but that was never implemented in Vanilla MC.
Pssst. {whispers}You didn't show the image on the PS Vita that showed the layered snow from Oct 14...see above /\ /\ /\ {/whispers}

2x2 trees would be neat and useful for the nuts who build bridges that span an ocean....
Stay fluffy~
