Emeralds have an emerald block right??If they don't what purpose do they serve?
Emerald ore yields emeralds (items). 9 emeralds can be crafted into a block for compact storage, a decorative block, or powering a beacon. Since we're probably not getting beacons in TU14, the emerald blocks will serve no purpose other than decoration. Emeralds themselves are used as a currency for trading with villagers. We're talking about the road to infinite diamond gear.....Checking out the wiki would be better than reading this though..... food for thought.

Hi everyone! I decided to become a member and post on this thread because I kept seeing a lot of confused ppl on here. I've been tracking info on this update for about a month now. Here is what I've been doing: First I search 4J Studios on twitter for the latest information, then I read this forum, sometimes I'll check minecraft wiki/xbox upcoming features, sometimes I'll check Jeb and Kappische on twitter, and lastly I'll check youtube minecraft tu14 release date predictions. BTW there is a full list of the upcoming features on the wiki and I recall 4J Studios stating that they wre working on PS3 bug fixes, then TU 14, then onto xbone and PS4 so my personal prediction is that we will see TU14 before the versions for xbone and PS4 come out. Thanks all and keep up the good work. And yes there is villager trading, it's in the screen shot and on the wiki.
Only a few more weeks until cert testing! And not much longer after that until it arrives (if it passes). I do wonder about the next gen minecraft timing... either way, super excited. Can't wait for all of the awesome new features!

I wanted to add a couple more things I forgot to mention earlier. The golden carrots, I'd have to say of course night vision and potions of invisibility come with that. Also a couple more predictions, I don't know exactly what PC version got and in what order (never played it) but that doesn't seem to matter much for xbox. Going from what ppl are expecting I expect we'll see an update during the summer that gives us horses, maybe a new biome or two, and other things that came at the same time. And I expect 4J will hold out on us until near Halloween for the pretty scary update, the one with witches and bats, and maybe that one will have the wither(possibly earlier).

Well considering we are coming up on the 1.3 update now, the next to follow would obviously be 1.4 which is the pretty scary update which adds witches, and the wither, wither skeletons, and alot of the stuff being brought forward which we are already getting. Also in 1.4 you can lock a repeater by powering the side of it with another repeater, and of course beacons.
In 1.4 also introduced command blocks but i'm not sure we will get these as we currently have no way of entering commands and or if they even exists, only time will tell. 1.4 gave us the ability to send items through the neither portal and kinda store them in the neither for future pick up, bug again this feature may or may not make it to us. Theres plenty more 1.4 gave but for the most part that sums it up.
In 1.5 they PC received a massive redstone update, which introduced so much stuff that I care not to list them all, but allowed alot of new and interesting things including hoppers, comparators and much more. Dispensers were made very useful, as well as many other useful things like droppers.
Horses arrive in 1.6, and thats the big thing in this update however it did introduce to us hardend clay and thus stained clay, as well as coal blocks, carpets, leads and name tags.
What? They aren't adding trading? Then what was with the screenshots of the trading UI?
like i said i havent been on for a while and im not one of those people who follow everything 4J does. i just sit and wait till the update comes out. i have no clue whether trading will come or not

Not likely I'm willing to bet we have it 2nd week of march, due for xbox one March 12th deadline. I'm willing to bet both M$ and sony will put it in high priority to try and beat the other to a early release date. I'm saying march 12th to coincide as it is being released on xbox one at the same time, and many sources are pointing to march 12th.

Yeah but given that its been 5 months since TU13, it wouldn't surprise me if it took them 6-7 months to release the Pretty Scary Update equivalent. Not only would it conveniently be released around Halloween, but I've noticed that 4J tends to release equivalent updates about 2 years after the PC does... and this doesn't stray from that tendency.
To be honest, it probably doesn't take long to add all the new features. They're not reinventing the wheel here, they are mostly porting code that has already been written and implementing assets that have already been created. I'd guess that at least half of the time between title updates is probably spent on testing, refactoring, and more testing. Porting code can be a nightmare sometimes. I'd also guess they have a general release schedule with MS/Sony/etc that allows them 3-4 major TU's a year with a couple bugfix updates mixed in. And I'm rambling now.

I believe games are released on Tuesdays (and sometimes Fridays) so the closest to your guess would be March 11th. That's the day Titanfall is being released so I'd guess either the 18th or 25th would be more likely. That puts them "close enough" to the end of the launch window, and also means they don't have to release the game on April Fools' Day. And I'd also bet that both next-gen versions are submitted for cert testing at the same time -- any difference in release date would come down to one company pushing it through certification faster.

Most of 4J's time is likely spent fixing bugs after porting code. Bugs and glitches that never happened on the PC version happen often on the Xbox 360 Edition. Probably to do with porting from Java into C++/C#. There are also things that are not as simple as copying and pasting the code. When the game was first being released, 4J mentioned that it was somewhat challenging to get the whole "gravity fall" to happen on blocks like sand and gravel.
Not to mention that they are now coding the game for the Xbox 360, Ps3, Xbox One, PS4, and the PS Vita. Each of which could have it's own bugs not present in any other the other versions of the game.

3-4 major TU's a year? That's what I've heard so if we get this one at the end of March we still get 2 or 3 more this year? I still say pretty scary has got to be around Halloween and I see that horses didn't come until a couple of updates later but with everyone wanting them so badly I think there's a good chance it'll be one of those things brought in early (hoping, just like everybody else). We'll probably see the redstone update this year. Thanks Cire360 for all the info, I've checked on the wiki what PC has gotten but I don't put too much stock into it, I see with this update they have brought many things in that are in future updates so I will keep hoping for horses. You are a great resource of information on here which is of great help to all us noobs.
Anytime, glad to help. Don't forget to hit that vote up button if the post helped.
As for horses, hard to say what code changes need to take place to support them, I think we need leads and name tags though but I could be wrong as I honestly never play with them much on the PC.

OK I did, it went from 0 to 1 but then a message came on the screen and said an error occurred. I think it still added it though.

Agreed. I spend a lot of time at work porting old code to C# and while I save a lot of time not having to create everything from scratch, moving from one codebase to another presents a new set of challenges that I have to work through. As I mentioned, getting the code ported is quite easy, getting it to work correctly is another matter entirely. But seeing as the core and structure of the game is already in place, adding things like new blocks and mobs should be really, really easy -- that is unless the feature introduces new mechanics into the game. That's likely why so many things are being brought forward from future updates... implementing them is fairly straightforward and doesn't require much work or testing.
As far as developing for multiple consoles, I'm sure they have a core codebase with console-specific stuff scattered throughout for the builds. You're right that each probably presents its own bugs -- I'd guess they put a considerable amount of time into testing each. We'll probably see title updates being pushed back further and further with each console added just to make sure that certain console-specifc bugs are indeed localized to that build.

My guess is that we'll see an update (TU14, PC 1.3.1) at the end of March. With all the new additions and consoles, they'll probably release a small bugfix (TU15) in May/June sometime. They'll want to release the Pretty Scary Update (TU16, PC 1.4.2) before Halloween so that means late September or early October. Hopefully they'll squeeze in one more update (TU17, PC 1.4.7) at the end of the year or early 2015. That keeps them within the 2 year shadow of the PC version. Compared to 4J's normal development speed and considering this is a crossover year for console generations, I'd say 4 title updates isn't bad. 2015 should be a big year for us though... from March to December 2013, the PC version went from 1.5 to 1.7.4. Those hoping for horses though? We likely won't see them until Q2 2015.
I'm going to go on record saying that the 1.4 update (pretty scary update), will arrive, maybe early-mid july. Its the 1.5 update that is going to take some time, this was a massive update on the PC and I believe it took the longest time to do. This update I think we will get around December. Thats not to say that they don't bring many things forward with each release as well, in doing so they just make the next update a bit easier on themselves for the next update.
Truth is I see updates coming more often now, and that 2 year shadow window I think will start to close this year, only time will tell.

"few weeks to go before cert". Sounding like April release. No word on xBone release.
