If someone could help me, I cant figure out any cool designs for a melon or pumpkin farm. It doesn't have to be automatic because it's going to be mainly for looks. I still want it to be really efficient though. (What I mean by that is preferably not 2 stems connecting to one melon, because that's just a waste)
Well, the most efficient, not-automatic melon farm I've found is three rows, 1st row is a drench filled with water, 2nd row is tilled soil0-that's where the seeds are planted, one per block, no spaces between, and the 3rd row is dirt where the melons will grow. Cap each end off with sandstone or some other block that can't grow plants. This way the melons from each seed can only grow in the free block next them in that 3rd row. Then, when you need to harvest the melons, you just chop them down in a row and they'll grow back in the same place.
From that basic three row design you can make whatever larger design you wish. The key is to making sure the melons have only a limited place to grow, so they grow where you want. They can only grow on dirt blocks directly right, left, in front or behind the stem.

I'm sorry I don't understand, if it would be possible for you would you post a picture of that design that you are talking about. If you can't then please just show me a diagram, like T=tilled soil W=water U=un-tilled soil S=melon seed and M= where the melon would actually be?

I've found a lot better design but thanks
I have also built an insane melon farm since this thread was created.
I have found the design on a facebook minecraft group not youtube
