I have a desert village that i fully half slabbed the ground. All the villagers only stay on one side of the village. I have tried pushing a few over to the other side but they run away. I even trapped them on the empty side and waited till night to see if they would go in the houses but they just stand outside next to the barrier as if that side is not registering as a village. Anyone else have this problem?
When you push them, you're not hitting them are you? That would cause them to run scared. The villagers won't see a 'house' if it's not within 16 blocks of them. Make sure that the village checklist is correct meaning make sure each door has the right number of blocks on either side (uneven number within 5 blocks of door in a straight line). Also, villagers are attracted to light so torch it up.
I have the same clumping problem with villagers on one side of my villages. It's always the south side. I made a post about it last week, if you search back a bit.
Take the doors off the houses on the side of village where they are clumping to see if they'll even use the remaining houses with the doors on their own. I have used this technique (in stages) to move a village over a couple of chunks, so maybe it'll work just to get them recognizing your houses as viable housing... then you can maybe put the other doors back up and see if they spread out more on their own as well.

Good idea. I didn't even think about that. Ill try it ty.
Yeah it worked. They are slowly making their way back to the other side though but i think if i build another house in the middle they wont stay on just 1 side. I need them to breed. I have like 9 farmers and 1 butcher. Im confused on how to make a breeding house. Will they breed if i make a house with alot of doors and trap them inside? I have heard different things like the walls have to be in certain spots and there has to be an over hanging roof. I dont know whats true or not.
Yeah I don't know why they clump but it's happened to all of my villages. Anyway, building a breeding house is easy. Just take a stack of dirt and however many doors you have (I believe it takes 3 doors for each villager).
-Build a frame or skeleton of a house based on how many doors you have (ex: 12 doors / 4 walls = 3 doors per wall so a 5x5 frame of dirt).
-Fill the ceiling with dirt has to be at least 3 blocks open space so 5x5x4.
-Place dirt 1 block down around walls so there is only a 2 block gap around the whole building except for corners.
-Place doors as walls.
The glass represents doors. Remember inside is 3x3x3 blocks open space. The width and/or length can be expanded but the ceilings remain the same. Can be made out of wood or stone if you want a permanent structure.
I wouldn't use the above design, simply because of how many doors you'd need. According to one of the posts above, you currently have 10 villagers. With the design mentioned above, if you want to have just 1 more villager for a total puplation of 11 villagers, you'd need a total of 44 doors in your village, for 12 villagers you'd need 48 doors... for 20 villagers you need 80 doors, for 30 villagers you need 120 doors, etc
However, there is a much easier, more efficent way of amping up the population in your village.
This design consists of a, breeding "room" is a small room several blocks below or above your village, with 8 doors, one villager and a view of the sky in front of each door. No villagers in this room breed, however they cause the villagers in the village above/below the room to constantly breed until the population cap is reached.
I usually build my breeding rooms under the village so that they can be hidden. Here are some details on how to build one under your village if you choose to do so:
Dig out a room that is 4 wide 5 long and 2 tall under the centre of your village (doesn't have to be exact, in fact it doesn't really have to be under the centre but I prefer to build them there for a couple of reasons). The floor of this room must be at least 6 blocks below the lowest area any villager has access to (other then the villager you will be placing in the breeding room).
In this room you will place your 8 doors and a villager. I prefer to secure my villager a couple of blocks away from the doors in a little booth to prevent him from constantly opening and closing the doors (the sound will likely drive you up the wall). In front of the doors, you must dig holes to the surface, so that there is a view of the sky somewhere in front of each door.
Here is a top down view of the layout of the room I discribed:
Glass = hole to the sky (can be topped off with a transparent block)
Bookshelves = doors
Logs = barrier of some sort, i usually build a counter (this is to prevent your villager from opening and closing the doors, if you don't mind them opening the doors contantly you can exclude this row from the design completely)
Cobble = floor
Notch = Villager
The last component required to make this room work is to have 2 (or more) villagers in the village above, they must be able to get close to each other to breed.
Also, please note that if you ever want to "turn off" the breeding room, all you have to do is place solid blocks so that they block the view of the sky in front of the doors in the room. This way, you only need to remove those blocks when you want the breeding room to "turn on" again.
I just ended up making a building and added like 20 doors to it and they started breeding....unfortunately the first baby grew up then jumped in the well and drowned and the second suffocated in a wall because the villagers insist on living in the same house causing mosh pits lol

Do i have to trap them in the building though?
