It was a glorious battle, but we emerged victorious. Our prize, waiting on the center of the pedestal before us was the egg.of Enderdragons. Oh what a trophy it will be, I built a little walkway to get to up to the egg. Bust out "The Lucky Goon" Diamond super axe and take a swing...wooops, it's gone...oh no did it fall, it must've fallen into the portal. off I go!!!!...now it's credits time. Credits done, I am back in the Stronghold. my lady, still in The End, confirms it has not went int the portal.but again, has warped ten or so blocks away. She takes a swing, and we never see it again.
Now, in hindsight, a second backup save on the hard drive would've elevated all these problems. or covering the whole End Portal might've as well...And we have since read up alllllll about the Egg's little teleporting games. A possible movement space of 15 out and 7 up or down in any direction, we have quarried the out of the End in hopes it might've warped underground, but we can find any evidence of caves or tunnels that would give it space to. Could it have teleported to the Portal thus causing it to appear in the Overworld? Might it still be underground somewhere? Is it most likely gone for ever?
If it went into the portal it is gone. Reload, go again.
I have lost it before after a few (accidental) whacks, it just teleported out of existence.
Best to cover the entire portal and bring a piston and lever with you to knock it off with. You can do the "drop it on a torch" trick, but the piston is way easier.
It only teleported twice, And given it's distance limitations, It is doubtful it got far enough on two to reach the void. If it did go through the portal by teleportation, and not as a fallen item, will it not despawn in the overworld? I know it's only got about 5 minutes if it's a fallen item.
Either way, the original spawn point surface area has been scoured. Might it be anywhere on the Y axis of the osp? or just surface if it made it there at all?
And what is this reload you speak of? I was under the impression of once gone, it is gone. As I said, I didn't have the foresight to save a secondary save...we were too hopped up on anticipation of a dragon fight.
I would dig up a 30x30x15 block area centered around the last known location of the egg. Hopefully there is a cave/platform underneath that it teleported to. I am currently digging out my end for endstone and there are more caves and ledges under the end island then you may think.
It's very likely it teleported somewhere out of sight.. Into a cave with no surface access. Given that it was hit twice, it could have only traveled 30 blocks horizontally, 14 up or down.. That's enough to put it out of reach, but it's a very good chance it's still in the End.
Currently items cannot travel to the overworld through the portal on console minecraft. Unless it was turned into a fallen item it will not despawn. Also if I remember correctly it has to teleport to a solid block.
The only way it would be gone is if teleport to a block occupied by a portal. Which isn't likely in my opinion, it's possible, but it sounds like when it was hit a second time it was away from the portal. There's a very, very small chance it teleported back to the portal, but there's a much, much greater chance it teleported somewhere out of reach.
It's still there.. Somewhere.
(My advice is to use an xray device, rail, minecart, and tnt.. )
two pistons and tnt on each, power them at the same time while standing in an enclosed area and let them squish you
you should be able to see through the world while inside the tnt
The Xray method I found was the suggested one involving a single rail, tnt, and a mine cart. very simple and effective.. and yet, so far, no sighting....

How will I ever prove to no one that I did this??

Stay fluffy~

That said, PixelDaisies, I will be taking your advice before giving up.
