Does anyone know what thorns on armor is for? Also i have a fortune 3 axe and it does not give me any extra pieces of wood, so what is it good for? Extra saplings? If so that is lame lol
Thorns (best on a chest plate) has a small chance of damaging what ever hits you. The higher the level the more the chance.
Fortune on a Ax is useless because an ax is for cutting down trees or picking up pumpkins faster. That is it. Fortune works on item drops, not the actual item that drops. For example: the difference between iron ore and diamond ore. When you mine iron, you get the entire block (fortune is not going to work). When you mine diamond, you get item drops rather than the block itself. Fortune works on these blocks.
Like the post above that mentioned that " you can use it on carrots, potatoes, wheat seeds. " actually using a pickax on mellons is better -- pops faster/more efficient.
Fortune on these tools -- can be used on -- coal, diamond, emerald, nether quartz, lapis lazuli, redstone, glowstone, melons -- gravel -- carrots, melons, nether wart, potatoes and wheat (seeds only)
The way I see it, efficiency IV, unbreaking III is the best for an Ax. Also keeps repairing cost down
Yea only time I use a looting enchantment is for swords and pick axe its awesome with sharpness totally helps the gunpowder process for my TNT. There really isn't a point except for a pick axe I agree with them but if ya got it doesn't hurt lol
Thorns is one of the worst enchantments you can put on your armor. Its nice that it causes the attacker to take a bit of damage but it also causes your armor to degrade faster.
Unless you have a lot of fortune 3 books laying around fortune books are best used on pickaxes.
The beauty of an axe is that it can be enchanted with sharpness and does pretty close to the same damage as a sword, and thus can be used as so, thus making it so you have one less tool to carry around, however it should be noted that when you inflct damage with an axe it suffers 2 durability damage and thus should have an unbreaking on it. I generally prefer an axe with sharpness 4, efficiency 2 or 3, and unbreaking 3. I burn through one about every week or so.

If you attack a mob with an axe that has Efficiency does that work like Looting?
I didn`t use a book. Got fortune 3 axe on the enchantment table. I added eff 4 and unbreak 3 to it. Bad thing about eff 4 on it is i usually end up hitting 2 blocks instead of 1 when im breaking a wood block on the ground lol.

Fortune on a axe would help on carrots, melons, potatoes, wheat seeds. But it wouldn't help with anything you would normally use an axe on. lol
