I need help laying rails from my home base which is at -7 71 8 to my XP farm which is located at -220 14 299...Can anyone do it for me if no one will help how many normal rails do i lay b4 i lay a powered rail n when i lay a power rail do i i lay just 1?
It depends whether your cart will be empty as well as whether you want it to travel in both directions. If you're gonna be sitting in the cart, I think I remember reading that the optimal spacing for a flat track is somewhere between 35 and 40 blocks. For inclines, you'll just have to test and see. I think you can probably space the powered rails by 3-4 blocks and still carry enough momentum to get you to the next powered rail. Empty carts are another matter, you'll probably have to place your powered rails much closer together on a flat track. I'd also hook up 2-3 powered rails to a button at your starting/stopping points to get you going initially.
Beyond that I usually build a large section of the track in standard rail and test different variations of powered rail to see what works best. I also like to put detector rails on either side of the powered rails but its not very efficient as far as resources go. If you're short on material, you'd be better off using redstone torches or levers.
As for that...question-like thing...I believe one per 37 blocks is the most efficient on a flat surface, but don't quote me on that.
I've seen the 1-in-37 ratio before, too, in an detailed analysis of how to maintain momentum on a flat surface without using 'extra' powered rails. That was written before the last couple of updates, though. I don't know if anything has changed lately.
