Read the changelog, looked through the various threads, but most of these posts are about bugs or features that assume I know some basic stuff that I don't about updates. What I want to know is this...
I have a couple of TU13 saved games... what won't I have? It appears Carrots and Potatoes are only available on a new map. How about emeralds? Is it safe to assume that if it's 'new' and it can't be created via the crafting menu that I am out-of-luck?
I have a couple of TU13 seeds that I really like... if I create a new world using my old seed, will this have all the new things in the change log? Or do I need to randomly generate a new world to get these things?
Anything else about the TU14 update that I need to know that's not covered in the changelog? Apologies if this was covered elsewhere... if it's documented, I couldn't find it.
As far as carrots and potatoes.... I'm going to hold off until the next bug fix because they might fix the rare drop issue (carrots & potatoes are rare drops from zombies but not right now due to a bug).
I have an entirely explored world and I am 102% sure I don't have any emerald ore but that is not a problem. Just find a villager that buys something from you, i.e. wheat or wool. Bam... emeralds.
Don't have any Nether quartz? Just use the Nether reset option.... Bam... Nether quartz.
You should not have any big problems using your TU13 world. I'm using mine.
You're ok. It can be confusing with so many duplicate posts.
Here's the breakdown for what you are asking.
TU14 seed generated items will NOT appear on your seed UNLESS you have undiscovered/visted chunks (i.e. dark parts of your map that you have note explored). If you have undiscovered/visited chunks, there is a SMALL chance that new items like carrots/emeralds, quartz, etc. will appear in those chunks when you visit them for the first time. Otherwise you will need to add items you want via Creative. Some items like carrots MAY appear in chests in undiscovered/visited seeds. You can reset your Nether to see if Quartz appears.
Items that can be crafted WILL appear in your seed, so you will have access to Anvils, chiseled sandstone, etc.
Villager trading will occur in your pre-TU14 seeds, so you can obtain emeralds that way (it's easier anyway)
Hope that helps. I'm sure folks far wiser than I will also be able to chime in and help
Thanks -- and if I generate a new world altogether using the same seed I had in TU13, the new items will be in that world? From your answer, I'm guessing yes since it's all undiscovered.
My most advanced seed is actually an 98% water seed w/ no villages. I have seen a zombie villager and I read somewhere they can be cured, so I suppose I can attempt to create my own village from cured zombies but that seems pretty ambitious.

The new items will be more likely to appear... but keep in mind that not every seed has villages or every biome to start with. Also, there is a chance the basic terrain lay out of your seed MAY have changed quite a bit (although I haven't specifically checked this between a TU13 and TU14 seed yet). That is, your island seed may or may not still be an island seed. If it has stayed an island seed, it is very unlikely to have villages since these do not generate in ocean biomes).
The seed will not be the same exact one from TU13. I'm not sure how much it will change, but it will change (at least everything I have heard says this is true, but you should give it a go and let us know)
Yes, you can cure zombie villagers, but I would have a couple of houses ready for them to live in or they will just wander off.
