I have been playing Mine Craft for a while now and I love that they keep updating the Xbox version, but at this point every time they do it seems like I have to start a new world and start over. Since the last update I have had quite a bit of time to build and dont want to start over.
The one thing in the new update I really want in the game is the Carrot. Is there a way to get the carrot in a world that was generated before the update?
I haven't played the Xbox version of the game in a long, long time; however, if carrots drop from zombies as they rarely do on the PC version of the game then yes, you could essentially obtain them in a newer version. The major downside would be having to farm zombies to get one since you couldn't find them naturally in your world.
Stand around at night and kill them as they spawn or set up some form of mob farm (Youtube and Google can show you how) around a spawner and collect the drops that way. Just know that carrots are considered a rare drop and only have a 2.5% chance of dropping.
As of now, no, there is no way without using Creative or methods forbidden from discussion.
It has been acknowledged that zombies should drop carrots and potatoes, but do not.
You'll have to wait for TU15 to get them.
It is in the game however you cannot legitimately obtain carrots or potatoes without starting a new world or creative. You will have to wait for a bug fix or next TU.

Farming Zombies for Carrot and Potato drops is not in the game yet, regardless of when you started your world.
I made a similar post http://www.minecraft.../#entry30165265
I fully feel your pain and a little more i'm sick and tired of starting a new world just for a new update
I understand where you're coming from; I don't really like leaving behind worlds I spend a good amount of time in either. But it's been two years since MCX360e came out. What other developer has devoted this much time into putting out Free updates, and substantial ones at that. I've been playing since before pistons were added so I'm not going to complain that 4J offers me a new playing experience every few months. I'm grateful my 20 bucks is being stretched so far.
Can´t you get a carrot from trading with a villager? I thought you could...
Ironically... it seems that you can sell them to certain villagers... but not buy them. (At least in the PC/Java Version of which I believe the Console version is following currently)
Another quick question. If I have a mob farm in the sky and have zombies dropping like crazy. Will they drop rare stuff or do I need to physicly kill them for them to drop rare stuff?

I want this damn Carrot!
(Well, 2.5% of the time when you kill a zombie.... if you don't get a Potato or Iron Ingot first.)
As for your question, I really don't know. I think it only matters that they're killed. You'll know for sure in just a few MC-days.
