So guys, what do you think about the villager trading?
I love it. It is a bit different from PC, obviously.
Some Pros:
You don't have to find emerald ore in order to get emeralds... just start trading.
Redstone is now renewable... let the Infiniobsidian commence!
Glowstone is now renewable in the overworld... no need to risk death by fire.
Some Cons:
Once a trade is locked, instead of a red X the trade disappears and moves the trade to the right of it over if there is one... that means you are really likely to accidentally trade the next slot if you're not careful.
Coal and charcoal are not interchangeable... butchers only trade for coal.
The non-interchangeable items might also include different colored wool but I haven't tried it yet.
So share your thoughts about the new trading experience! As I discover more things I will post.
UPDATE:
Looks like you can't combine enchanted books together on the anvil. You can play with them to see what you can apply them to.
Villager priests won't take any tool for an enchantment trade. The tool can't have an enchantment on it... no repair through the priest.
Glowstone was renewable with the addition of Blazes in TU10 (I think that's the TU#, can't be arsed to look it up.)
Couple of additions:
Chain armor is now available in survival worlds and renewable through trading
Diamond tools and armor are now renewable through trading
Iron tools and armor are now renewable through trading
Leather armor is now renewable through trading
Bottles o' Enchanting now available in survival
Yes, glowstone was renewable but now no need to go to the Nether. And good supplements. A lot of cool things added now. Iron and leather tools have also been renewable due to the renewable materials. Diamond tools/armor is good though.... wasn't renewable before but is now.
Uhh, I hate to be that guy. but obsidian has been renewable since the game was released via Nether Portals, and became even more renewable with the End spawning platform....
I really don't see much of a point for the rest of the trades.
Chain armour, whoopee, useless.
Renewable tools, whoopee, I have 57 Diamond Blocks.
Exp. bottles, killing a single aggressive mob will yield more exp. half of the time.
Their only use is acquiring Emerald Blocks in old survival...hoo...rah.
I'm 'ok' with the current system. I'd really like the trade not to disappear, and instead just have an x through it, accidentally acquiring the next item when the first trade disappears is slightly annoying.
Second I don't like not being able to see what 'tier' the trade is. Its rather hard to tell if your on the last trade tier or not.

think it is suppose to work that way. I mean you are suppose to give an unused tool/weapon/armor for them to enchant. If you did this then I guess that is a bug, as what I mentioned is how it should work; at least it does that way on the pc.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
PC used to just take whatever sort of tool you had whether it was damaged or had an enchantment on it. The priest would be able to repair it and wipe previous enchantments for the one he was offering.
"A villager priest may offer to trade enchanting for emeralds. The offers will be very specific, a certain enchantment for a specific item (for example, Projectile Protection III and Unbreaking II on an iron chestplate). To enchant an item, the player places it and the requested emeralds in the priest's trading slots and moves the resulting enchanted item to their inventory.Unlike enchanting by enchantment table or enchanted book, enchanting by village priest has no experience level cost. The priest does not technically enchant the item, but rather exchanges it for a new one with the enchantment (even if the old one is damaged). This means that priest-enchanted gear can be effectively "repaired" by buying the enchantment again on the same item, which is usually much cheaper than any other kind of repair. However, any other enchantments will be lost; a priest cannot augment an already-enchanted item.Priests can enchant iron and diamond swords, pickaxes, axes and chestplates. There are several sets of enchantments for each of these, but a particular priest will only offer one option for each."
It's funny that the way the villager priest does the enchant trade now on Xbox is the way it will work on PC after update 1.8! What?!?!
Everyone just HAD to get caught up with PC. I hope you all are HAPPY! /s
I think the trading is OK. I'd like to have a better indication of tiers and what trades may be available to unlock. With villager professions controlling trades, you at least have an idea of the "class" of trades.
It seems like we're just dealt a crap shoot with what may unlock next. Trying to balance the desire to find out the next trade with the feeling of [SUCKER] written on my forehead for all of the crappy deals I've taken... So I can buy 3 bread for an emerald?? smh
Maybe I'm trying too early in this world - resources are still in the accumulation stage for me right now, so maybe after I'm all stocked up on books and have inventory flowing out of my ears, I'll have an easier time taking the plunge.
As an aside, you can't stack books together, but you CAN stack enchanted items. Yeah, it's a lot more work, but with no need to repair, the level cost is pretty reasonable. 8 bows and 8 books for a power 4 bow. I found a hive of cave spider spawners, so string isn't much of a problem for me - if the skeletons aren't dropping them enough.
I'll say I am more concerned with cow farming now than I've ever been! I don't think I've ever had multiple stacks of raw and cooked steaks before! Leather is in high demand!
When trading with villagers is it normal for the items offered to only be offered a certain amount of times, then it disappears for good? Or is it a glitch?

Nevermind lol.... Just answered my own question.... Had to trade for the other item and then the one that disappeared came back.
I have a question about the Villagers within the Village. I have found a village, looks to be a farming village. I know I have a Butcher shop. I do not think I have a church, blacksmith, or library. Does this mean I won't have villagers with those professions in my village? Or do they all spawn regardless of the buildings in the village?
Can't wait to start trading soon....need to start breeding/slautering for meat trades!

You'll get different professions regardless of the type of buildings so you're ok. Generally, when a world is created or a village loads for the first time different villager professions will spawn in or near their respective building, i.e. priest with the church, but that only really happens the first time.

Oh good, I was hoping that was the case. I checked last night and all I saw was the Butcher(and farmers). I'm going to add doors to all the huts and maybe build some more houses so that they hopefully will multiply.
You know, one thing that I've learned (the hard way) is that you can actually leave your "infinite" breeders on. Once the villager cap is hit they won't breed anymore so there's no need for a toggle unless they increase the cap in the future, which I think is unlikely, or if you want villagers elsewhere.
In mine, I've got all the different professions with no buildings and it technically isn't even a village. The villagers are just outside of it.
