How do I enchant using anvil and books? I put a enchanted book and sword or axe in the anvil and it puts a x as if its impossible so what's up?

Tools go on the left slot while books go in the middle. The far right is where your tool comes out of when it's done being enchanted.

If it says "too expensive" you don't have the XP to do the enchantment and the X will remain.

Yeah sometimes work can be too expensive. The anvil can only perform work costing up to 39 XP. Anymore and it will say "Too Expensive". The main thing you want to repair/enchant goes in the left slot and the "sacrifice" or thing you want to add to your main thing goes in the middle. If it's 2 items that are the same you can switch their places in the anvil to see if the cost goes down.
