Hey, so on my xbox I have one achievement left, on a rail, and I've made a tutorial world peaceful (which helps me get achievements) and I have a long railroad track and I think I have more tracks then I need but just to make sure.
first of all how many tracks do I need
To get those tracks,
1: how many sticks do I need which I've figure out which tracks I'm using
And
2: how much iron will I need to go along with the sticks
A few extra things to keep in mind as the posters above have done great:
One thing to notice is whether you'll be moving uphill or downhill. A downhill slope charged with powered rail, followed by more downhill slopes will keep your cart running far beyond 31 blocks.
I have also found it useful to put the powered rails on downhill or uphill slopes.
Remember that you can always mine out the rails and put them somewhere else. However, you can't re-forge the rails into iron (AFAIK) so less is better - you can always make more. Unless, of course, you have tons of iron. Then no need to worry.
Also, make sure that you will have the room. The xbox edition is limited, with only 1024X1024, which is a lot to explore, but in terms of straight movement, you might be hitting the horizon sooner than you think. So make sure you build it on a place where there is lots of land, and not too much water unless you want to build bridges (and some of those might be impractical if it's a huge ocean).
The plan I chose since they changed the hight for placing blocks I started to go up with dirt mainly because all I had at the time were iron rails so I did that but later on I finally got gold to make powered rail the only problem was... I barley had any red stone and red stone torches from the tutorial basement area and I stole the iron rails and the cart from the basement and broke the item dram for the minecart from there. Thank you very much, before when ever I did this kind of stuff on other posts everyone ignored it but on this everyone actully looks and comments on mine. Thank you very much.
If you don't consider doing duplication tricks as a way of cheating or just taking the fun out of the game there is also a way you can use a sticky piston with a repeating circuit to create all the powered rails you could ever want with just 3 powered rails, I did it myself along with other various glitches just to see if would work in survival mode and did get them working, since I put in so many rail systems its made things alot easier theres also a way to create all the redstone torches you could want as well with another duplication trick.
To get this achievment I took all my iron and made EVERYTHING into rails, then I did the same with the gold to make power rails. After the trip in the minecart, I got the achievment and exited without saving. The rails turned back to iron and the power rails back to gold. I trolled the system
If you have the enough iron, just do it man. You can then simply exit without saving if you want your iron back. Just make sure you dont save while you build the track
i can help you,Just friend request me @ fundaykaide and i will help you on my world, just please tell me your gamertag here before you friend request me

Recipe is 6 ingots and 1 stick for 16 rails.
Straight - no curves, you need a minimum of 500 rails. crafting 32 the recipe times would give you 512 rails.
That equates to 192 (32x6) iron ingots + 32 (32x1) sticks.
Happy smelting. Math is your friend.
