I've been checking out many ways to protect my valuables so I can play mulitplayer (I can't trust everybody, even some of my friends will take those diamonds ouch!). The combination lock with a tnt backup seems the best (so they can't blow the door down).
Are there any other ways of protecting one's door? IOW, by not allowing ppl to simply blow the door up wiithout a tnt backup system. If I just made a regular combination lock, how can I protect the door itself?
In a regular survival game with both of us not being the host (and having the power to disable placing/mining blocks), there is nothing you can place that I can't remove and vice versa.
therefore, there is nothing you can make, that I can't mine into, Even lava isn't a problem, as I can place water to turn it into obsidian or place blocks to prevent its flow.
the usual tactics that work are hiding it in very mundane looking places
giving away extra resources to your fellow players (people who got diamonds from you have no need to take more of your diamonds
stop placing value on diamonds, they aren't that important to playing the game
Ha - If you are that worried about hiding your loot, you could hide it in the place that people are least likely to look: on top of the Nether. There is an inherent level of danger by doing this (mostly by a small chance of suffocation), but it works just fine in TU13. You will need to have a steady supply of Ender Pearls (~2-3 per visit). Hint: you have to find the top-most block of bedrock, and that is difficult because most of the Nether ceiling has a bedrock thickness of 2-3 blocks.
If you're worried about your core valuables.. like diamonds, enchanted items and such.. just wait a week and use an Ender chest.
It's a lot easier than going through all the trouble of building a combo lock, going to the top of the nether.. of course this is only a single chest's worth, but your diamonds are definitely safe.

Giving away resources to those who need them is also a cool idea.

They have yet to be found and take mere seconds to set up.
Stay fluffy~
