Mooshrooms once they spawn can survive on anything, well cept things that can burn them. Mooshrooms normally only spawn on mushroom islands, and only on grass. However there is currently a bug that allows them to spawn on mycelium. I'm expecting once the update lands that they will require grass to spawn, however I expected this to happen last update and it didn't.
Where is this green grass you have? Is it on the Mushroom Island or on another island? (Can a Mushroom Island biome have green grass, or does the Mycelium overtake it?) If it's on another island, how far away from the Mushroom Island is it?
I would get as far away from that Mushroom Island as I could, raise up an island about 12X12 and see what shows up.
Any chance I could see a picture of this map, or share the seed. I'd love to poke around a bit and see what you've got going on.
There is a small amount of green grass on the initial spawn island where I found the mooshrooms, I've since extended that out to flat over the water and the mooshroom I have seems to prefer that area.
Yes you are more than welcome to have a look the seed is BARABASZ all in capital. Let me know what you think
I should upload some coordinates if I get a chance this week as I started digging under my mud hut in the north west and have found slime so now I think I should start building some sort of trap and have some fun

Grass can not overtake mycelium, and mycelium can not overtake grass. Usually on average a mushroom island has a few grass blocks scattered about, depending on the size of the island. Also most seeds will place a number of dirt blocks on the islands as well, giving the 'grass' a random chance to get a little bigger. However because of the number of mycelium blocks on the island grass blocks usually don't get a chance to spread as the number of mycelium blocks usually ends up spreading to the dirt first. This is a unique trait of mushroom islands, meaning that large islands on the same seed maybe slightly different in landscape between different worlds, as what grass spreads on my world, may be different then on yours.
Answers everything perfectly! One more: Can you determine the boundaries of a Mushroom Island by extending dirt blocks outward from the edge of the island? i.e. when the Mycelium stops spreading is the edge of the Mushroom Island?
You could determine the biome even with regular grass, as it is always the brilliant green color, unless that was changed.
It is the only one that has that brilliant green color when it is grass. Mycelium will spread to any block even ones that are not considered the biome.
So in that respects, no.
You will have to determine through regular grass for the border. Where the brilliant green ends.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Biome indication is a good example of why we need a status screen, similar to F3 on the PC. Its near impossible to tell where some biomes separate, and will get even harder as the we get more biomes and real world terrain generation comes into play. We don't need everything that is shown on the PC but we could defiantly use (X,z,y), facing, entity count (for villager, passive, hostile and items), biomes, bl, rl, to start
Right now I use the rain/snow as an indicator of boundaries for most common biomes. Jungle is pretty obvious and the grass for swamp is pretty obvious as well. It's the ocean/grass that is dicey.
Took a look at the seed tonight and I'm far from an expert, but I am pretty sure you have 100% ocean biome. There is virtually no land that isn't at least part Mushroom Island (and oh, so many Mushroom Islands). You have the one tree, from which you really need to breed a forest, and otherwise, some sugar cane and sand and dirt. There are some flowers and grass, so you will be able to create a wheat farm for food. But I don't think you'll be seeing any sheep, chickens, regular cows or pigs. So save up those spider webs!!! I say get to wheat farming, raise a herd of Mooshrooms, and then start spelunking to find some metals, expand that forest, and start a spider hunt.
This is a fascinating seed and I've never seen so much water or so many really cool mushroom islands! A real challenge map. Enjoy!
Yeh I've found it to be fairly challenging tho nothing that hasn't been fun
I think the mooshrooms are the way to go as far as food goes they are quite convenient, just a quick boat ride with a ton of bowls and I'm set for quite a while.
The biggest problem I've come across over everything is that the lack of land mass makes enderman encounters very frequent as they have limited space to spawn, I was under the impression the could not spawn in the light so maybe they are teleporting into my cave? There is no exposed openings.
Is your cave three blocks high? Endermen can spawn anywhere as long as they have three blocks of head clearance. They can also be out during the day, although this is much more rare. Keep your living quarters 2 blocks high until you can get a diamond sword, then you can chop down those Endermen with relish!
You've got some pretty good sized islands, but not the open rolling fields that one might want to ward off lumps of enemies.
Yea it is bigger in sections, I have made 2 height cut ins and side tunnels I run for when enderman appear, I can generally kill them with my stone sword from under there, once I have attracted them close enough.
How well does a diamond sword kill them? Well enough to not need to hide?
Haha yeh if they stacked I would be set!!
I've decided instead of exploring the caves I have found just yet I built a very crude drowning trap as I am hoping to collect some gun powder so I can have some fun
Swim around and see if there are any bigger islands that are better suited to your existence. If yes, the explore. If no, then start digging. You'll want to raise up some earth to expand your tiny home.

Potentially.... but that is easier to be done in Creative mode..... I'm not sure why you would ever want to though....
Thanks!
