I was on Peaceful mode, looking at the Pumpkin patch below my balcony, when I hear a groaning noise coming from underground. I was thinking Hmm. That's odd. I heard a zombie on peaceful mode. I dug underground and saw a zombie. It was not a player because it groaned, had no gamertag above it's head, and dropped rotten flesh when I killed him. Is this a glitch or what? o_O

Try exiting the world and re-entering and heading back to where the groaning came from. Enemies cannot spawn in Peaceful Mode. If it happens, again. It's a glitch. Then try copying the world seed and create new world with it.
Did you recently switch into peaceful from some other mode prior to starting your game? and if so, was the Zombie within a 9 chunk radius of where you spawned into your world when your game loaded? If so, hostile MOB's don't necessarily despawn when switching modes immediately, so there could be some residual hostile MOBs from prior to being on Peaceful mode, just no new MOBs should spawn in while on Peaceful.

Actually all mobs should instantly despawn, he might hear the noise for a second after entering the world, but then they should very quickly despawn as the code instantly calls despawn routine on mobs. Contrary to belief mobs do attempt to spawn on peaceful but they instantly despawn, the code is called so fast and because of the 24 block min spawn radius from the player we don't see this happening, I can't recall where I saw this in a video I think it was Jl2579's mob spawn explained video, but can't really remember. In whatever video i watched they dissected the code to spawn mobs piece by piece.
So I'm having a bit of a hard time believing this to be true. My guess is that he loaded the game not on peaceful. I've been playing MC 360 since the beginning and have never encountered such a thing. I'd love to be proven wrong by the OP replicating it.

hmmm... good to know... I so rarely play in peaceful that I've never noticed whether MOBs instantly despawned or not.
This happened to me once...... But never again since.
I had a skeleton attacking me once on peaceful.
Again i'd like to see it. The game calls despawn on every hostile mob instantly after spawning them which I believe is every game tick or 1/20th of a second, at the end of spawning them it calls the despawn if the game mode is set to peaceful. Now I'm not saying anyone is stretching the truth or anything of the sort. Just that this code to despawn them is pretty straight forward, and doesn't do any "well if they are on a half slab then we can't despawn them" type thing. It simply will despawn them regardless of what the mob was doing if the game mode is set to peaceful. There was a way where you can actually see hostile mobs actually spawning all around you in peaceful but instantly despawning but I forget how to do it.
However that said when the game goes from another difficulty to peaceful there is a chance that on-loading the world the hostile mob might for example get a shot or hit on you before despawnign but they defiantly won't stick around and 'moan' or continue to harm you as being suggested.
Perhaps 4J implemented their own way of handling despawning and that it does fail from time to time, I just know for a fact that on the PC it is impossible for this to happen. However I can't see 4J doing such a feat because that means in later code conversions things could go badly as the port of the code is 'different' so to speak.

No. It was always on peaceful.
My friend and me both encountered this in the Tutorial mode.

I don't think I can re-use the seed since I was in the tutorial world.

There's your problem. The Tutorial World is always created in a mode where mobs will generate. If you save and exit the world after you are through the tutorial steps (i.e. when you can leave the tutorial area) and then re-launch the world, you can change it into peaceful mode at that point and play it just like any other world you create on your own.

I Once had a couple of creepers spawn in and follow me and a friend around on a survival map we were doing. This was on peaceful when the new halloween texture pack came out. So we just assumed it was a lag of some sorts; but after we escaped from the creepers, we never saw any other mobs for our entire game.
So when they do spawn on peaceful, its prolly just a very random and unlikely glitch that wont happen very often.

But when I made the tutorial world, it was on peaceful. And there were no other mobs after that.

Regardless of what mode is selected when a new tutorial world is created, it will be created in a mode where mobs will spawn (either Easy or Normal, I'm not sure which - think it's Easy). When you get through or skip the tutorial and then save the world, it will reload in whatever mode you select at that time. This is how the tutorial works and it is, as far as I know, the only world that behaves this way.

Oh, ok. Thanks. I believe the problem is solved

*i would have noob towered out but i was freaking out and it didnt come across my mind.
