I found the End portal in my world (I have to make 12 - YES 12 eyes).....but I read the only way out is to die or beat the dragon. Would a nether portal get you out if you built one there? I don't want to go in till I know I have a way out other then my or the dragon's death....
No, that's the only way. It's pretty straightforward to kill the dragon though. Just take out the beacons on top of the towers then sit under the altar and keep poking him when he lands.
The dragon wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
I put it off for so long. Killed it the first try.
Granted, I was on Easy... But I was expecting to need multiple attempts.
After you kill the Dragon are you returned to the overworld or is the game just over? Also, do you get to keep stuff you pick up in the End?
Once the dragon is dead a portal opens up in the fountain like thing in the middle.. a story type thing scrolls on your screen and you return to the last place you slept with your inventory intact.
You don't need the dragon egg right away. I suggest not moving it till your ready and have a place for it. Remember that if you hit it, it will teleport on you, and it has the same properties as sand and gravel, in other words its effected by gravity so if it teleports someplace in the air and drops on a torch which then turns it into an entity and you don't notice it, it will despawn and is forever lost.
Panda4994 actually put his dragon egg to use by making an oracle out of it. I did the same thing but its somewhat different as we can't lay string yet. The idea is to actually force the dragon egg to only be able to teleport to 1 of 2 different blocks. Now the dragon egg CAN be pushed while its falling without turning it into its entity, and thus you can ask it 'yes' or 'no' questions, hit the egg it will then teleport to a yes/no block (randomly), a block up then triggers a piston which pushes it back to the start position. Its kinda lame but neat none the less and at least has some use for the thing other then looking at it.
As for the dragon, I was kinda disappointed, I was all psyched out that it was gonna be a hard battle (on hard), and 4 of us came armed to the teeth, with snow and iron golems, buckets of water, golden apples, potions, diamond gear (fully enchanted) and it was over before we could lay down any golems, and without needing any potions and apples. Fact is we left at 11:30 and was home for dinner!
At least when the wither comes I'll know it will be a much more challenging fight.
Wow. Overwhelming. I clearly know nothing about the Dragon Egg. I was trying to follow what you were saying, but whoosh, over the head.It turns into stuff?
A dragon egg is a block that spawns on top of the bedrock portal created by the defeat of the Ender Dragonin The End. When the player clicks the egg, it will teleport several blocks away (in Creative mode, it will break instead). They currently have no explicit purpose, but are tricky to collect.

The game is not over.. The game never ends.:)
