i Have not seen a cow, sheep or chicken in a long while. Alot of grass has popped up all around my village & keep. But I don't see any passive mobs other then the ones in pens. I tried setting some free to maybe control the grass, but they dissappeared. What do I do to get these guys back? When I first settled this spot, there were critters everywhere, now none....
Either you have reached the maximum number of passive mobs in your area as a result of intensive farming, or, as sometimes happens, they are there, but not in obvious places. Either perched up on mountain ledges or maybe down a hole. I once had this problem and discovered a whole menagerie that had got stuck in a hole in the ground and couldn't get out.
Look around your world, they are likely stuck in a small area, usually on mountains and or on the edge of ravines and what not. Remember that if a passive mob can't move more then 20 blocks in any direction it will not despawn.
Thanks I'll have to check the snowy mountain region....I did see a pig & cow stuck on a ledge. When I tried to help them down....they jumped to their death.....haven't been there in awhile.....
Ha! Yeah, had that issue before, spa day for the cattle! Your best bet Hulyn is to fence an area off and populate it to max capacity and then they won't spawn elsewhere in places like that water hole or mountain ledges. I have just had to do the same on my current world. I still think they need to patch that. Maybe get an animal to despawn if it can't move more than one block in any direction?
LOL!!! Spa Day for Cattle! I took a dog & a cat & did a walk about. Couldn't find anything. So, I did a fly over in my world. Thought they might be hanging on ledges but.....nothing. Couldn't find a single animal. So they have GOT to be in a hole somewhere like your pic. I don't know how I'll find them, I guess I'll come across them one day. but they ARE dying. When I tried to breed some sheep, I got the max animal thing. Came back a little while later & tried again & it worked....so where ever they are, they are dying, slowly, alittle at a time but for sure.

Do you have any Jungles in your world? If you do sometimes the animals spawn under leaf blocks and they cant get out which also hides them. If you listen close you will hear them. I have also noticed while caving once that sometimes grass will grow in a pocket underground completely surrounded by rock and dirt. I found 2 cows and a chicken in one of these pockets. To find them without luck on your side you need to use one of the x-ray glitches to see through the world. Hope that helps.
yes there is alot of jungle on my world. I did another fly over & none are on ledges in the snow biome. I guess I'll have to just to do a walkabout. did that with a Cat & dog last time. It's funny to see the creepers run when they see the cat. I didn't put up any torches & we made it. I walked all night in the wilderness. but didn't find any passive mobs.....not yet anyway,,,,
I went back to my keep & built a squid spawer between it & my village. There are torches all over that area. At night when it got dark 2 cows & a sheep where hanging around. In my village, 1 house had grass for the floor, a cow & pig had spawned inside!!! So wherever they are, they are dying. Why would you not want animals around???
all and all i wish the would increase the animal spawn a bit....i wish there could be more......i've got a small farm with about 40 all penned up.....and i never see any anywhere else now.....i hate that

My first console was the Atari 2600....yeah, I'm that old....
I also wish they would raise the spawn limit a bit... if you are trying to run a server with more than 2 or 3 players in it, it gets hard to have enough farms for everyone because of the cap.
But glad to hear your trapped mobs are dying off on there own... We have one mountain range on our map that seems to trap every mob that spawns once a week or so... its uber anoying
Last night I was making a big house for myself in the village.....All of the animals are spawing around there now. The sheep were rather annoying as they were following me around & getting in my way. I saw cows & pigs also.....no chickens yet. I only have 2 penned up.....got a new dog. A wolf was hanging around, so I tamed him....it's a good distance from the snow biome....don't know what he was doing there...
but where ever they were trapped, they are free now....they are everywhere, at least for now.
The map i'm currently doing I didn't bother getting any sheep. I tend to play survival and keep things functional but on this one I decided to extend the village and make a big old house lording it over them. Of course I want nice carpets in there so...cut to scene of me spending three days sniping at animals trapped on ledges and looking for roaming sheep. Every single one kept spawning in the most awkward place. Had to take a big stack of soil and wheat to lead them back down. I have sheep once again!
I needed black wool so dyed a couple black and bred them. Now got all black sheep. Next I needed white so tried to dye them white but it appears that you can't? I thought sheep could be dyed any colour. Now I have to go find a couple more white ones and keep them separate in case iI need white again. I was lucky enough to have a lot of string from my mob spawner and managed but I wish there was some way to dye them white again.

Your attempt at misleading him is not funny.

I envy that.....
