Just been watching various You Tube videos of Skyblock and it looks really cool. I was thinking about setting one up on xbox. I'm guessing on 360, as the mob spawn max height is Y128, the skyblock would need to be just below this if mob are to be obtained? On the videos i've watched they appear to be well above cloud level but maybe that's on PC. Do mobs spawn above Y128 on PC?
Simple enough to build though. Was thinking about dotting a couple of islands around the map,maybe one with a portal, etc.and one with items stashed in it.
And the current height cap for mobs is 128.
I never really saw the purpose to a Skyblock, though.
Unless you put some effort into flooding the land below, all your mobs'll be down there...and you'll lose interest in about 2 hours at most.
Well I went home last night and set it up. Played for about an hour, but had other stuff to do. I quite like it, though it's definitely something I would probably enjoy playing more with friends. I think I enjoy the limitations and the necessity for making careful use of everything. I'll see how it goes, though I may well get bored after another hour.
Well i'm still plugging away at this and still enjoying it. Had a few false starts, i.e. made obsidian instead of cobble! Then fell in the lava, third time lucky. Made bonemeal and grew some grass which I harvested and found no seeds in, so suddenly became very dependent on my melon seed which i planted. I was down to my last hunger bar before the melon grew so now only just surviving on a diet of melon and the occasional apple. It's a healthy, gluten free vegetarian diet (until I make a mob spawner) that leaves me ever hungry.
