Can someone, anyone PLEASE help me make a working piston elevator?!?! I've tried so many times and can only get like 2 pistons to work...i would like it to be pretty tall too.
If you're like a expert with redstone and can help me, I'd really appreciate it. And you might get a cookie!
I Understand you're looking a piston elevator, and that's fine, but I suggest a minecart elevator considering It's one of the fastest elevators you can make. It cost some Iron but It's worth It.

First off, if you're going off of a YouTube tutorial that isn't specific to the console version, look for an older tutorial.
Keep in mind we're currently the equivalent of PC version 1.2-1.3, so if you're building off a recent tutorial, its not going to be the same due to updates in the way pistons and red stone behave.
Have you tried the spiral staircase-type pistol elevator? I've found those to be the most reliable.
Basically, piston elevators on the console are glitchy as heck because the piston arms often glitch into the mob (especially if the mob is moving when the arm extends.) To make them work, you have to slow the rate of firing way down.
Its not really the pistons that end up glitching, at least not that I can tell. I've built nearly every type of elevator there is (redstone wise), and can tell you that nearly every one of them will break at some point in time if your playing MP. For some reason or another MP seems to break the correct calling of timings or should i say throws timings out the window, and I've got no real explanation as to why. I should also note that at this point in time back on the PC it was for the most part the same way, in that MP elevators were a big no no, and not because of lag, but because they always break.
I've had them working perfectly with myself in the world, but should another player enter, or leave bang they break. As others explore the world, they break. Making slight adjustments to repeaters to set timings helped but on a reload of the world they were broke again. So many factors seem to influence timings that in the end I just gave up. and I strongly suggest you do the same, and save yourself alot of pulled out hair!
As electricblooz pointed out you can slow them down considerably and get them somewhat stable and functional but at the cost of having a player whom is climbing stairs easily able to race one to the top by walking and taking his sweet old time. Luckily there are alternatives such as a minecart or boat elevator. Soon we will have enderperl elevators which is also very fast. There are others but they are slipping my mind at the moment. I personally like to use neither portals, since we have a divisor of 3 we can place neither portals rather close and with a bit of work in the neither get them to link up nicely, step in the portal, step 4 spaces exit the portal and i'm at my specified location. Remember that the Y cord can be placed anywhere in the overworld. As long as your portals are 4 spaces apart in either the x, or z planes things link up and work well.
BTW, you may get others who 'claim' to have a working elevator, but once tested I've busted everyone of them using nothing but having some players enter, leave and explore the world a bit.
Currently it's not practical to have a medium to large working piston elevator in xbox multiplayer. This is due to the large amount of redstone used producing so much lag causing the player to become stuck in the elevator. As others mentioned you would have to slow the timings down so much that it would be faster for the player to climb up using a ladder or stairs. You can build a very small piston elevator lifting the player ~2-3 blocks that works for most small multiplayer games.
