Is there anyway to stop animals from randomly spawning on my map? When making a farm I kept hitting the max animal limit so I went out to kill some and a cat spawned in my chicken farm and a wolf in my sheep farm

No easy or practical way... unless you want to carpet all available spawning areas with half slabs....
Passive MOBs don't spawn in ocean nor in desert biomes on the PC (http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Spawning)... but I'm not sure if that is true on the XB360.... this link still says that new passive spawns can still occur only on grass blocks with light level 9 or greater above them.

I can confirm that passive mobs do NOT spawn in desert and ocean biomes.
And I wish they would do something about passive mobs spawning halfway up cliffs. It would be an idea to not allow a passive mob to spawn if it is restricted to one block that it can't move from perhaps? I normally build my main home on fairly open ground to avoid this issue, but my current world (and I am desperately trying to stick at this one) is very mountainous and I have a nice little place surrounded by mountains which are now covered with cattle that can't climb down meaning no free roaming cattle. So hunting for food is a pain in the butt!
Had the same issue. To prevent them spawning into your existing fenced in areas, make the fence 3 tall and put water on the bottom. The animals will jump constantly, but it's better than having all your sheep killed by wolves.
As for the cliff thing, I ended up putting trapdoors on every ledge I find an animal trapped on. Takes a while, but I only do it a bit at a time when I go out to kill the derpy things.
To prevent spawns out in the world, the most practical thing I can think of is to keep a huge number of passive mobs in your farm. Then when you need to kill some off, you know where they'll be.
If you want to stop them from spawning within your pens, just change the grass to any other block other then grass. Passive mobs need grass to spawn on. Obviously this is ok for chickens, cows, and pigs as they don't need grass.
For sheep use 1 row of grass blocks that is higher then you, place a iron bar every second grass block, then encase 1 block above the iron bars so that it leaves 1 high area, place another block overtop of the iron bars. This will leave you a hole to push your sheep into, they will not be able to move around and will be trapped within this area, as well they can easily be harvested, If you make the walkway around the area out of grass as well, and don't expose it to the sky, you shouldn't have wolves spawn within. Keep in mind that the grass walkway on which you are walking and is 1 block below where the sheep are will ensure that you have a high grass spreed rate which in turn dictates how often the sheep will regrow their wool.
The iron fence separating the sheep is kinda needed and has the proper hit-box to prevent them from crowding into each other and glitching out, it also prevents them from eating the grass under the bar which ensures that grass growth can come from its neighbor as well as your grass walkway should you use a grass walkway. I hope this makes since, if not i'll post a screenshot.
Finally you may wish to ensure that you have a max 2 high roof overhead, else endermen could end up removing the grass blocks on which your sheep are standing and end up setting them free.
I like the trap door idea. I guess also half slabs or even just stone blocks would do the same? Sometimes I guess there simply isn't a short cut solutions to problems.
