The title may seem misleading but what I'm simply asking Is with the amount of biomes we already have and what not, Can the xbox map size afford to add future ones? I Just wanna hear your opinions on this.
Well since biomes is mainly just part of the generation of the world, I have to say yes it could. It is all really matters on how many blocks that are new that can be added.
I am sure there might be a limit to the number of blocks they can add before more severe problems occur, but mainly it depends on the sheer amount.
As in Let's say the mesa on the pc, I don't really know if the xbox 360 could handle that biome as is. It might need to be modified to some degree. It is the amount of blocks that make it up, especially new blocks. However that is just a guess due to the mesa being sometimes really tall reaching near and above the 128 marker; well some of the trees do anyhow. That is a lot of bocks it has to compensate/generate and maintain. It is like having a mountainous map and building only on top of those mountains. It would get laggy the more blocks that is added in placement.
Overall I don't see why not. certain biomes that do go in might have to be modified in order to not cause problems...:D

If more biomes are ever added to the Xbox 360/PS3 Editions, then one of two things has to happen. Either worlds will generate as they do now, where some biomes get left our once in a while or they're going to have to reduce the size of all the biomes to fit them all at once.
I don't see the Biomes getting smaller, it appears that 4J is using the same map generation algorithm as was used on the PC, and that doesn't show signs of changing ... so I'd have to go with some Biomes just won't generate for some maps...
I'm not convinced that the Mesa's would be an issue. yes it is more blocks, but technically an air block still exists in memory, it just has a null data set to it. Adding/removing blocks shouldn't adversely effect the processor for handling, although it may impact the graphics adapter for rendering...
I'm not sure that it would be more of an issue than doing a Jungle as they exist now.
More blocks will not impact the performance, as the space for those block id's are already allocated within MC and a biome is more or less a select number of blocks that make up the surface as well as a small number of blocks that maybe contained below the surface such as emeralds. Biome markers really only effect the weather and what 'tint' to apply to certain blocks such as grass.
I remember one 4J rep mentioning that in the future we will be able to 'select' what biomes we want within the map as well as roughly how big each biome will be.

I was only thinking of the height at which certain ones, at least on the pc get. If it were those biomes added. What I actually meant on block placement is less air being filled not the type of blocks. Air is easy to calculate, especially with anvil and what it did with them. Some people have mentioned when they have built lots and beyond the height that there will be a bit of lag.
Of course I might be wrong, but it is what I was referring to. It is the amount of blocks to keep track of, since that in essence takes more memory than air blocks; or am I getting anvil format wrong? However that being said, most of the new biomes on the pc would be fine, as not many even go beyond that 128 marker, if at all. There will probably be constraints regardless, at least for the 360, but this aspect is the least of the worries. Not much overall impact. I would only see minor problems when compared to the other things that cause more slow down or jumps in fps.
All I was saying, as overall as I mentioned it is quite possible to add; assuming they keep things in line in the code...

There is much more to anvil map format then just how 'air' is calculated. In essence, and to sum briefly, chunks previously were 16x16x128, and changed to 16x16x16. 'air' is no longer saved or loaded. Soild chunks (no air) is compressed and uses less memory/space, as well chunks with lots of air also uses less memory and space, but in the mix or middle pretty much uses the same amount of space as previous format. There's a bit more to it but that sums it more or less.
I understand your logic of how more blocks will increase the lag, but that's simply not the case. Some users have complained how as they build lots on a world it begins to lag, however I believe this is actually the users fault, as I for one don't experience this unless I do things that require lots of memory like packing 500 chests in an area, or massive amounts of water/lava flows, ect.
Having a large mountain for an extreme mountain biome however really shouldn't impact the 360 at all governing what I already stated about the anvil format.
k, thanks for the clarification, as what I did look up on the format; I guess I miss interpreted, or well... was on the same lines, but not fully understanding, I guess...
Yeah that much is true, and the reason I added that bit at the end, where it is mainly other things that cause a lot more lag than simple generation changes.
I myself haven't really experienced that kind of lag with many blocks since the disappearing/reappearing bug that plagued quite a number of people on here. I prefer knowing what is more correct than going on assumption, so I do appreciate the correction.
Yeah that bug/glitch had not much to do with amount of blocks, but it is the last time I experienced heavy lag in some form. Block update bugs seem to be the worst... At least most of that has been fixed; at least on my screen. thank you again...

Adding more block types isn't really going to gum up the works as that's pretty light on impact to the system.
Taller stuff shouldn't be any more of a problem than filling a super flat to the brim is.
