I've made a couple watchtowers around my land, and put a snow golem in the main tower. To stop him from getting out and spreading his snow everwhere and getting the creepers attention, I have built a fence around him in the tower. He can still move around, but he's useless because he cant shoot his snowballs. I need a sentry that can take out enemies, while staying put in his tower. I have tried removing the fence, but he jumps out and get's himself and a chunk of my land blow up with a creeper. The tower is three blocks high six blocks by six wide, and a block in eack corner with a fence inbetwen those corner blocks. Does anyone know how to make a watch tower where my snow golem can fight off attackers while remaining in his tower?
people have fenced in snowmen before to make sentries and had it work.
it might be a matter of how high the tower is. If the angle is wrong, then the snowman is seeing the creeper through the fence, and thus would hit the fence.
So you may need to fiddle with the height of the tower, relative to the spotting distance for a creeper.
Also consider putting the fence at head height instead of foot height (test this on creative). That way, he can shoot at a downward angle
I feel dumb, I didn't even know snow golems fired snowballs. Do they only fire snowballs at mobs that are attacking you or just any mob within a certain range?

Enemy mobs (skeletons, zombies, players who attack you (I think), and creepers (if I recall correctly). It's all in the wiki.

Actually, I believe it is any MOB that is aggro'd to a non-hostile MOB.... or maybe it is any non-docile MOB that is agrro'ed in general...
Hard to tell what would happen if a skeleton shot a wolf in front of a line of snowmen...would the snowmen turn on the wolf because it turned aggressive to the skeleton and not to another player? What about skeletons shooting each other?
I've seen the snowmen go after zombies, skeletons, spiders, and creepers that are only chasing a player (no damage inflicted yet), and enough snowmen firing snowballs does enough push to prevent creepers from being able to move forward.
Snowballs still don't do any damage... but if you have a pit of lava or a cliff near by and can force the MOB over the edge with the.... well, that is another story....
