On the Xbox 360 me and my brother would always play Minecraft split screen using one account with xbox live and one without and this would work perfectly.
Now whenever I try to play with him the non xbox live account must sign into guest or make their own xbox live account, and the issue with guest is that nothing saves for that player.
Is this normal?

Whenever minecraft xbox first came out, me and some else would play splitscreen online, they were just a guest. (when it says your account and a 1)
Yes it is normal since you would have to have a valid account to save. You could just have a chest to put your inventory in everytime you're done playing.
