Hi, I was just wondering if anyone can confirm if you can play split screen multiplayer using component cables. I plan to hook up to an older HD projection tv that does not have HDMI inputs but does have component inputs. Before I go buy Xbox component cables I just wanted to make sure it will work. Thanks.
I did use RGB component cables with splitscreen during the summer of 2012 (shortly after that game was released), so it should work if they haven't changed anything about it since that time. However, my TV was also HDMI equipped, so I can't tell you whether or not it would work on a TV that isn't. If you already have the TV and cables, I would say it's worth giving it a shot.
I don't already have the cables, right now I'm using composite so I know it won't work. I suppose it's better to use RGB anyways for everything else so I might as well pick some up and give it a try. Thanks for the response.
For split screen you have to use a HDMI cable with HDMI-ready tv running at least 720p, preferably 1080p.
Sorry, time for a new tv..... but the good news is everything will look a lot better!
Shoot! Oh well, thanks for clearing that up. I've gotten a lot of yes/no and it's good to have clarification. Thanks again.
To play splitscreen you need to be playing in HD, that is all that matters. Your Xbox must be displaying in 720p or 1080p. That can be achieved with either an HDMI or Component cable.
This is a Component Cable
Both HDMI and Component works. I know. I've used both to do splitscreen. The thing that matters is that it HAS TO BE AN HDTV. IT HAS TO BE 720p OR 1080p.
Course, 99.999% of HDTVs have a HDMI input nowadays.... it's almost impossible to find a HDTV without a HDMI input.
Besides, you're gonna have to have a HDMI input anyway because neither of the next-gen boxes (which you'll eventually upgrade to) have 'component' outputs.
Go get you a new tv and as Mustache said watch your "p's" and everything else will fall into place.
No, if you have RGB inputs a new TV is not necessary. all you have to plug in the RGB cables and go to system display settings and change them from 480 to 720 or 1080. Do not get a new TV if it's not necessary.
O.k., I'll check my Xbox settings as soon as I get home and see if that makes a difference. Silly me I just assumed my display settings would be set to HD. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
