The other day I was hosting a game, and I could clearly see that a friend of mine was constantly being hit, but nothing was around to hit him. He was fully fed, had full life and no monsters where anywhere near the group of us. He was not taking any damage from the attacks, he also found that he could run away from this invisible thing attacking him, and if he returned to the spot where he "lost" it, the attacks would start up again, this went on for almost 30minutes I'd say.

Yeah same thing happened, although I was a taking a small amount of damage each time ( 0.5 - 1 heart ). It disappeared right after I died. I thought it was THAT guy, but when I died the death message said "DrakeZhoom was slain by Zombie".
Maybe it's a position glitch. The game might think you're somewhere else like in a cave. I would say let the invisible thing kill you if it is messing with you. If that doesn't fix it then I don't know what will.
