Why did 4J decide to release HD Texture packs in their game if it does not fully support them yet? You may be asking "What's wrong with the current Xbox texture packs?" Basically, nothing. From a technical standpoint, as long as a Texture Pack's resolution does not surpass 16x16 there are no issues whatsoever, but once you start using HD textures 32x32+ there starts to be item patching issues. With the release of the Natural Texture pack I eagerly purchased the texture pack as soon as I could because it was the first time Xbox players would be playing Minecraft with HD textures, and I enjoyed the overall look of the pack from the preview pictures released on PlayXBLA. When in game though, I was quite disappointed. At first glance it seems as though there is nothing wrong, but when I actually obtained an item(NOT A BLOCK) I noticed it didn't look right. Then I realized,I was right. If you are to look at the image of a tool in your hot bar, or inventory (we'll use a wood sword for example) you'll notice it is not as detailed in your hand as it is in your inventory. What happened is the item you see in your hand is a simplified version of the 32x texture you see in your hot bar. Should it be doing this? No. It means MCX360 does not truly have FULL texture pack support yet, so I posted this topic so that people will come to notice this and request for a possible fix or update.
EDIT: OBVIOUSLY, I understand that the smaller the image is the better it looks, meaning the hot bar image (being smaller) will ALWAYS looks better than what is held in hand, but that's not what I'm referring to. The image of an item held in your hand is not of 32x quality, unlike what is shown in the hotbar, or the item.png file of the texturepack. Read further down to my 2nd post in this topic to look at some comparison videos of Dokucraft 32x on Xbox, then PC. On PC it's "What you see, is what you get", the xbox is a different story...
I've hardly ever seen a 32x or above texture pack where the items in the hotbar looked exactly the same as those in your hand (talking about the Pc obviously). I guess that means the PC version doesn't have full texture pack/resource pack support.
32x is HD for mine craft, 512x is SD for other games though (like skyrim)

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
it has nothing to do with whether the game supports these textures, its about whether or not the entity textures match the actual object textures, the answer to that is no. the entity textures may be higher than 32x and that could be one scenario, but wit most of the items that look drastically different it has more to do with how they function within the game. case in point the cauldron, the entity/ hotbar item shows a round cauldron, well items aren't round in minecraft, also it would possibly take more than 32x to create the curve texture, also this may cause issues in relation to the water texture and animation
its not that 4j had diabolic plan to put out a pack that wasn't "HD" enough for you, what it seems like is they wanted the entity textures to look great in item frames, but where limited when it came to the full item textures, remember they are still limited by the performance of the xbox

You kind of seem to understand what I'm saying. I know how texture packs work as I create them for PC, and I understand there are certain item images that do not effect block textures (like the cauldron), but why does the texture quality decrease for ITEMS to 16x when held in hand? I'll give you an example of what I mean with a video. Everyone know what dokucraft is, right? This video displays what 32x dokucraft looks like on Xbox
Notice how the terrain looks completely fine, but the items lack in quality when held. Now here's the PC equivalent of the same 32x texture pack, notice how the items maintain their detail when held in handKEEP IN MIND THESE ARE BASICALLY THE SAME TEXTURE PACKS
