So I follow Tango Tex, most of you know he developed the iron trench, which generates a crapload of iron. But the Xbox version just isn't far enough along yet to actually create the trench.
I built DocM's iron farm in my world and recently noticed that some of my villagers have been disappearing and while it shows the love hearts for the villagers breeding they are not increasing the amount of villagers needed to keep the 4 villages running anymore.
Anyhow back on topic I noticed that tango actually built a new farm which is pretty resource heavy for doors, but since i have a pretty good wood farm shouldn't be too much of a issue. As far as I can tell the farm should work on the xbox, with some 44 villages stacked, pretty tighly. The bottom building for keeping entities loaded shouldn't be needed.
The video seen below should clear things up. I'm wondering if anyone has created/attempted to create this on xbox yet, i'm going to try and build it in creative later tonight. Just thought those who use iron golem farms might want to take a peek at this.
it takea a 1 hour TuT to show us how to make it....Nope.avi never doing that because we are all going to have to start new worlds again in TU14 to get all the new structures new villagers and emeralds for trading
Overlookdent, I think that is how you spell it, has made an iron farm, but not quite that one. He has figured out how to get one to work well on the xbox version.
This might be an older one, but in his let's play series he has made a functioning one that continues to function. I don't know whether or not he made another tutorial on an updated one or not, but the mechanic is there still.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
That is actually 1 platform from DocM's. Mine has 4 platforms. Each platform is more or less a village capable of spawning golems. I have 3 functioning most times, however villagers tend to start disappearing from time to time when we go over the 50 villager limit. Before the most recent TU you could breed past the 50 limit, and somewhat still can but as i already stated from time to time the villagers will start disappearing. BTW DocM is not the original designer of that farm, it actually was created by JL2579. I signal platform will produce roughly 1 golem every 6 minutes, which works out to be about 3 iron bars every 6 minutes give or take, with four platforms running my farm produces a golem about 1 every minute and thus equates to about 18 iron bars every 6 minutes.
Tangos most recent works on the xbox, i've built it in creative and it spawns golems like there is no tomorrow. I see upto 4 spawn almost constantly, the amount of iron it produces is staggering. I'm currently testing to see if it will go astray after awhile before attempting to build it in survival. The nice thing about Tango's design is that it uses at most 42 tp 44 villagers, which is just under our villager max count. This farm is producing about 30 iron bars every minute!

most of that time is him explaining how things work. and the silo nether system. id say the actual tutorial for the spawn platforms is like20 mins. its mostly repetitive. once you get the idea of what hes doing its pretty simple but it would take some time to actually build, hours id say and you have to build it all at once i would imagine.
we dont have hoppers and entities cant travel through nether portals on the xbox so a huge part of the system is broken. im not sure if villages merge on the xbox, but it wouldn't suprise
me.
Well the way villagers are handled when unloading them on the PC is why they need the neither, entites and villagers unload, which doesn't happen on the xbox so far villages have not merged and its still pumping out around 28 iron per minute or more, way way way more iron then i can use.
I've spent time well away from the farm as well as in the neither and it hasn't broken it yet, gona kill the ender dragon and spend some time in the end to see if that will break it, but so far the farm works well on the 360. But as you pointed out we do not have hoppers so must be 'present' to collect, but no big deal when its spitting out 28 iron a minute. Spend a couple of minutes there to get a stack of iron seems well worth the effort.
I know people mostly do things like these for fun, but...why not just dig for iron? It's not exactly hard to find, lol.
I usually end up having stacks of iron blocks just collecting dust in my chests anyway.
Kinda the beauty of minecraft, you play it your way, i play it mine. I personally don't like crawling through caves in search of resources that will eventually run out. I prefer to develop farms, with as much automation as i can get. As for iron I chew through it like crazy, pistons, minecarts and iron armor as well as some tools. Its also a nice building block if used with the correct color pallet of blocks.

I love when people bring up complex mechanics for xbox because I dont have the PC version so its all I know. I've looked at this design a bit and its not possible in xbox. Sadly, the chunk and portal mechanics are what the iron foundry uses to pump out so much iron. Xbox minecraft isnt that comple yet. It could possibly use the design, but the part where an item is shot through a portal to reload chunks(Im pretty sure thats how it works) just couldnt work on xbox. It kinda sucks now that xbone is coming out, a lot of people are going to be leaving xbox360. The mechanics of pc and xbox are so different, but there likely is a way to create hyper spawning iron farms, just not discovered.

And as I already said 'we' don't need to worry about loading chunks as they are all loaded, that part can be omited. Its the primary reason why we 'xbox' users have such limited sized maps, because there is NO unloading of chunks, all chunks. Consider all chunks in fact the entire map as 'spawn' chunks in the pc version, in that once they area loaded they never unload.
This farm DOES work, and does not require the mechanics of firing blocks into the neither. I can attest to this as i've built it on 3 different maps.
Hello!
I do not know if this thread is abandoned, but i figured i would ask my question.
I know that Tango emphasized that the villager farm needed to be placed away from certain blocks so that they weren't obstructed. Is this because certain blocks require direct sunlight? I made the first 15min or so of the video underground, and i am hoping that i do not need to redo it above ground. Hopefully this question makes sense and that somebody has the answer!

I have a different question about iron farms. A friend and I just started a new world about a week ago. A few days ago we used almost all of our resources (at the time) to build a single spawning cell from the JL farm. Docm said it averages one golem per six minutes. It's not really worth it... unless you can AFK over night. So far I tried this twice and was unsuccessful. The first time was my fault because we ran out of blocks, made a dirt structure to afk in, and when I checked in the morning I had been overrun by mobs. So after collecting some cobble I created a safe structure. Now I can safely AFK, but the XBox controller eventually cuts out, or the screen goes dim (I'm not sure if this causes the game to stop updating or not). I'm pretty sure the game stops updating once the controller turns off, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have tips for AFKing over night? Or are we just out of luck?

the game automatically pauses when the controller cuts off. take a rubber band or string and loop it around the joystick so your character is walking. then the controller wont power off. but this will kill your batteries.

As I understand it you need sunlight to hit one side of the door. I know it's strange, but the way village mechanics work the game only considers the door a valid village door if one side of the door is 'outside'. Meaning sunlight hits it during the day.
I'd seriously recommend building any Iron Golem farm above ground unless you are experienced with village mechanics and how they behave.
So I hate to say... You should build that particular farm above ground. The mechanics it uses are a bit complicated. A slight misstep could ruin an hour's work. Good luck tho..

Killenjoke offer a good solution. Or use a wired controller, the screen will only dim, but not pause the game.
Also, I'd say if you are not satisfied with the output of that design build more cells. Docm77 bases his estimate on a four cell/village farm. Personally I built only two and never really worried about the output because it was more than enough for my need in that world. Considering that farm has put out nearly two double chests of iron blocks I was ok with it. It was totally worth it.
It seems like you want a crap load of iron just to have it if you need to afk farm. Your call tho.. I'd say build more.:)
Keep in mind that 4J has placed a villager cap on us at 50. (Not sure why as I know the 360 was capable of handling over 200 as witnessed prior last update), and Jl2579's farm (tutorialed by DocM) uses 16 villagers per Cell, thus max cells is 3.
I'd also recommend any who's not used to building iron golem farms to build JL2579's farm rather then the iron foundry. Any who are serious about building the foundry should do it in creative at least half a dozen times before attempting to do it in survival, espeically when chaining the villages together.
Its important to note that when you build this farm you begin killing the golems as soon as possible and don't collect them for killing later as the golem cap is reached in about 40seconds to a minute at most. This farm requires that you also consider adding a garbage system when your not around to get rid of any iron your not using at the moment.
I'm currently attempting to contact tango in respects to see if we can 'raise' the villagers up 1 level to 'disable' the farm thus turning it off, and to also let him know what steps i took to get it to work on the 360.

I don't believe this is accurate...
As I understand it, villages are defined by "houses" with a nearby villager in order to be considered as active.
A house is defined as a door with a non-transparent block at some point above it, and also a different number of blocks before it as behind it that meet this same condition (out to 5 blocks in either direction).
Basically, you have to have an open (Transparent) path (straight up) to the sky for a shorter path out from the outside of the door to the house as you have on the inside path behind the door (this is how a villager tells inside from outside), and each door that meets this criteria counts as a separate 'house' for the village.
So technically, you really don't need an enclosed space to define a 'house' but you do need some non-transparent blocks to block your direct access to the sky and some open access to the sky (no non-transparent blocks above to max build height...and beyond). Also, the door could be at bedrock level, completely closed off behind it and with the path before it up to 4 blocks out blocking access to the sky, just so long as that 5th block has a straight up (transparent) path to the sky (you can fill it with water, glass, leaves, torches, signs, glowstone, etc., just so long as there are no non-transparent blocks in that path.
So if I build an iron foundry in my world the villages won't merge even if I go to the nether or the end?
In theory... no, they shouldn't... they should continue to operate without having to worry about chunk loading/unloading. I don't have one of these built in any of my worlds yet, and this thread is over a year old... Maybe if Cire360 (or anyone else who has built something like this) sees this, maybe they can likely tell you if it is still working in TU20.

Not enough light/illumination to prevent hostile MOB spawning.
