I have two questions since the new update came out.
#1: Do slimes still exist and are the rules for getting them still the same? On my new map I dug a very large area well over the 26 by 26 that people talk about or whatever that is. It is on I believe y-10 and everything is at least 3 block high with glow stone in the celing. I have yet to see a slime spawn there. I only have tried it on easy mode though. Also, I went back to one of my old maps and the area that I could get slime to spawn in and no slime at all. Just curious as to whats up with that.
#2: Do mushrooms still grow in mushroom houses? I built a mushroom farm similar to ones I have had success with on older maps and they dont seem to be growing anymore. I put a mushroom every other block in a fair amount of rows on cobblestone and I has still not seen any growing in the inbetween stops as in the past. Everything else is the same. I still have redstone torches with a full celing and the room is as dark as the old ones. I have spent a lot of time in the area thinking it might be because I am not near there and that still has not produced a single new mushroom.
I am afraid 4J must have changed something with the updates to make these two things not work right anymore, but figured I would ask first to see if anyone new anything.
1.) Slime mechanics haven't changed since the release except the spawn height being raised from 16 to 40. They still spawn in roughly 10% of the chunks below Y=41. You'll need to light up the neighbouring caves and keep expanding it if you want slimes.
2.) Mushrooms' growth has seriously been stinted since the release. The best you can do is plant one every 8 or so blocks away, which'll spread to about...5 per original (maybe 6). If you need excess mushrooms, just bonemeal one and harvest the big one it grows.
No more rooms flooded with mushrooms.
slimes are the same, for the exception y40 and below is now their spawn limit. Plus the fact the easiest way to get slimes is using a slime finder of some kind.
What you did is ok. chunks are 16x16, and if you hadn't got a slime in your farm then you must not be in a slime chunk, or they are spawning elsewhere in a cave somewhere, if not other mobs taking up the spawning...
As for the other question, Not sure exactly what you mean by mushroom houses... What I do know is that the mushroom growth probably has changed to where only a few within each other will grow, but to a limit within an area around each mushroom.. So having it in a row like that might be the reason. You must have hit that area limit. So try planting in sections as the area can be quite small. Also the growth time is reduced, so they do tend to grow rather slowly now...
I hope that helped a bit.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I have a brand new seed for the latest update and I have too many slimes! It seems I accidentally built both my personal base and my community base on top of slime chunks.
If you are below level 40, all the caves around you are well lit, you've been waiting for 5+minutes somewhere 27+ blocks away from the slime pads and you still aren't getting slimes, your pad isn't in a slime chunk. I'd suggest looking up a slime finder like mentioned above. If you aren't interested in doing this I'd dig a super long tunnel that is 3 tall and 5 wide and as long as possible (100 meters should be a good start) and section the tunnel using fences so that the full tunnel is sectioned into 5 x 16 areas. The reason for digging the tunnel is that you want to essentially test as many chunks as possible for slimes. The reason for sectioning off the tunnel is that when slimes spawn they start hopping in a straight line, if you have a slime spawn at one end of the tunnel theres a chance they might hop to the other end before you head down there and you wont be able to tell what area they came from.
There might be more efficient ways to test for slimes (maybe dig a 3 wide tunnel?) but I am not too familure with those ways. When I chose to build my slime farm I just looked up my seed and my base coordinents on a slime finder and was pleasently surprised to find I was on top of 2 chunks.
Edit: Sorry I forgot all about the mushroom question. Unfortunately I am at work and they have disabled me from confirming with the wiki, however if memory serves me correct there are a couple of problems with your mushroom farm. It sounds like your mushrooms are on cobble stone? If this is the case this *might* be your first problem as I believe mushrooms will only grow on dirt or mycelium (please double check this on the wiki). I think your second problem is that it sounds like your mushrooms are in a checker board pattern. This is definitely a problem. A single mushroom will only spread if there are less then 5 total mushrooms of the same type within a 9x9 (please double check this size on the wiki, it might be 3x3 or 5x5 not sure) square, so you definitely need a lot more space between mushrooms.

They used to grow on my cobblestone in the older update. I will say that there are way more than 5 mushrooms in a 9x9 spot. I laid 17 just in one area because in the past I would put them down and leave a space on all sides inbetween that one and then lay another. I used to get tons of mushrooms that way.
Also, thank you all for your advice on the slimes. I have been on I think y-10, but have not waited close to 5 minutes. More like 1 minute. There have been some mobs that had spawned above ground, some of which were still there when I left the cave, so that might be affecting it. I will check the slime finder, but usually thats only for the PC version and I am on 360.
I have only played Minecraft on my XBox (my laptop can't handle it) and the Slime Finder I used was the same one mentioned by Tamorr. It worked perfectly.
The chunks didn't really change much themselves across the versions. I actually used that very slime finder for both my worlds I have worked on a lot. It is not a pc only app. As that aspect of the game did not change. One thing that is the same in the pc & xbox versions.
Yes I do play pc as well, but not as often as I would like. I play each equally as separate games. However I can say that I have never even used the slime finder mentioned even on the pc...lol
I have yet to get far on the pc, as I play the xbox more at the moment.

I tried using that slime finder, but it didnt seem to work. I went onto the other one that was like a confirmation or something and that worked, but I then went and tried to find slime where it suggested with no luck.

And this is why I never trust those sites and find my slimes the old fashioned way.
I'm relatively new to the game, and I inadvertently created a setup where slimes would spawn. I just tunneled down to the bedrock to setup my systematic mining operation. I'd regularly see the big bubba slimes whenevever I'd drop into my mine from the vertical shaft I had dug out from the surface. They could barely maneuver in the bottom of my V-shaped mining hall, which made killing them a piece of cake. I had acquired quite a lot of slime early on before I even knew what a sticky piston was.
Problem is, lately they haven't been spawning much at all. I'm not sure if its just bad luck or being in a new gaming routine where I'm just not visiting there as often, but I hope I didn't change anything to keep them from spawning.

What do you mean by "didn't work"?
What did you do to try and find a slime?

I believe that MOB's only spawn in the chunks closest to you, so that if you travel too far away, spawning in a specific chunk would stop until you got close enough for it to start again. Probably, because you aren't visiting that area as often would be my guess.
Well the initial one didnt do anything. It just had coordinates and didnt show where the slimes were. It was just blank white in the middle. Also, in the other one I just saw locations and dug out huge areas like 40 x 40 x 3 high.
Its just annoying since I really actually thought slimes were taken out of minecraft. I really dont think people should have to do research and spend hours digging out mines to find slimes.

If I try to use the Slime finder that Tamorr and I mentioned on my work computer it doesn't work. I think this is because we have a net nanny sort of thing on our computers at work. That being said when I try to use that site on my cell phone (android) or on my personal lap top (using firefox) I have no problems.
When I access the slime finder on my laptop/cell and put in the seed number and my current coordinents it pops up with a little graph with a bunch of green boxes. Those green boxes show the slime chunks. You'll need to hover your mouse over a slime chunk to get the chunk's coordinents. It will list the coordinents of 2 opposite corners of the chunk you are hovering over.
You can use my seed/coorinents as an example. In World Seed type -559639226 then click Update Map, then in Map Center fill in X-416 and Z-208 and click Go there. If you do that on a computer with proper internet access it should show you a graph with a bunch of green boxes, in the centre of the graph there should be 2 green boxes next to each other. If you hover over the left box it should say "-416,-208 to -400,-192. That means the corordinents of 2 opposite corners of this chunk are X -416 Z-208 and X-400 and Z -192. To figure out the coordinents of the other 2 corners just mix the z of one corner with the x of the other corner. Doing this would make the missing corners X-416 Z-192 and X-400 Z-208.
I really dont think people should have to do research and spend hours digging out mines to find slimes.
You don't have to do research or dig out anything, just explore and light enough caves in an area below y 40 and you are bound to find slimes eventually. The slime finder is just used to speed up the process or help pick a perfect spot for a slime farm. I have certain caves in my map that I know are guaranteed to have slimes when I visit them. I think this guarantee is due partly to the fact that I spend a lot of time working in the vicinity of these caves and due to the fact that I have lit at least 80% of all caves within a 100-200 metre radius around the area.
Reasons why your slimes aren't spawning on XBox:
The area you are checking is not in a slime chunk
The area you are checking is above y 40
You have not spent enough time near the area to allow slimes to spawn (I usually give it 5-10 minutes just to be sure)
You are waiting too close to the area for slimes to spawn (unless a spawner is involved, mobs will not spawn within 27 metres/blocks of a player)
The caves around you are unlit/not lit well enough (we want to prevent all mobs but slimes from spawning since slimes are least likely to spawn under normal circumstances)
Well my friend and I went all over a good portion of my map. Had to be at least 200 blocks in a square circle near my house area from y 60 to y 5 and placed torches all over the place. Mostly on the walls of course, but sometimes on the ground too. I think we used at least 12 stacks of 64 torches. We also waited for at least 7 minutes near one giant area in y 25 and then left and went all over the place. There were no slimes. There were no mobs at all really. I did find a spider spawner with moss stone so I fought a spider, but thats it. I do now believe that there is something wrong with this game when it comes to getting slime. Its way too hard and I have wasted way too much time to find them.
If you look at the map locations of the slime spawn chunks, they are pretty few and far between, and easy enough to miss, even when digging paths in circles or in straight lines. What world seed are you using? and what are the corner coordinates of your square/circle?
Its from X 285 Z 160 to X 285 Z - 80 to X - 60 Z -80 to X -60 Z 160
This is the xbox 360 version.
That's quite a large square....
Try clearing out the corner near X:285 Z:-80, maybe multiple levels with a ceiling height of about 4 per level starting at around Y=5, there should be 4 slime chunks in that immediate vicinity:
X:240,Z:-80 to X:256,Z:-64
X:256,Z:-80 to X:272,Z:-64
X:272,Z:-80 to X:288,Z:-64
X:256,Z:-64 to X:272,Z:-48
There appears to be one chunk at the X:-60, Z:-80 location spanning:
X:-64, Z:-80 to X:-48,Z:-64
...and near the X:-60,Z:160 area:
X:-64,Z:144 to X:-48,Z:160
X:-48,Z:144 to X:-32,Z:160
X:-32,Z:160 to X:-16,Z:176
There should be several that go through and around the lines that connect those points.
Just 3 chunks to the south of X:285,Z:160 looks like a decent Slime spawn area:
X:256,Z:176 to X:272,Z:192
X:272,Z:176 to X:288,Z:192
X:272,Z:192 to X:288,Z:208
Thank you so very much for checking that for me. My friends and I have spent probably about 4 to 5ish hrs all over my map lighting up every cave we could find and digging around trying to find more open areas. Some of it was already done, because we decided to do a legit build of a castle made of obsidian. It was crazy and took about 3 months since we dont have tons of time to play.
Thanks again!
Update: I did finally find slime. One of the areas recommended worked and actually an area I had already dug out had some too. They do take a while to spawn, but I am thrilled to finally have found a couple!
