This has probably been a topic before, but I ask anyway: How high is it possible to build?
Is there an invisible barrier that makes going further up impossible? Or will the game crash if you build high enough? Or maybe something else, like falling into this void an die?
I started building a skyscraper, and have built stairs for nearly 20 planned floors. And before I knew it, a cloud passed right through the uppermost stairs. Surely, I must be close to the height-limit by this time? This is even higher than I thought possible.
Of course I could try to build further, to see what happens myself, but since there could be the possibility of really screwing the game up, I thought I better ask here first.
Like Cobra said, the max height limit is 256 blocks from bedrock. After that it is impossible to place blocks. The game won't crash, but you could get a bit of lag.
Somewhere around 130, give or take.
It should also be noted you can fly up into the 500s for no apparent reason, but not build there.
Sky limit is 511, this is because of the void, like, on the PC, the sky limit is infinite (computer infinite, not human infinite, the real limit is about 2million blocks), so if we could fall into the void, without dying, we would get to about -1120 blocks then fall from the top of the world. You USED to be able to do this in the end on the xbox, (fall through the void without dying, you had to be on a minecart, and you would fall from the sky eventually), So, if 4J ever adds the void to the overworld, that fly limit will be increased to about 1000

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

Thanks in regards!
It used to be 128. Now it's double that, at 256.

Curse PremiumYes, because no natural blocks spawn above/at the cloud limit, the limit for generation is 128 (clouds at 130) and the build limit is 256.
