Unsure if this a bug or not, or if anyone else has had this problem. I had a wolf hanging around my sheep pen. I ignored him and he was there for a good 2 weeks. I was assuming he was fantasizing about the lovely mutton my naturally spawn pink sheep would taste. I stopped the game one night, and both my sheep and wolf were on opposite sides of the fence still.
Next day I got back on xbox and when it started....both the sheep and wolf was gone. I assume during the start up, the sheep may have glitched through the fence and wolf got it. BUT I found the wolf hanging out in my tavern....INSIDE the tavern with closed doors. Never did find the sheep. After a week of trying to lure him outside to give him his feedom, I tamed him. Him and I became buddies for the next 2 weeks. Every evening him and I would go to my house I feed him, and after putting him in a sit position, I would close the game out...
One day when I came back on, He wasn't there. He just POOFED! Not a sign of him anywhere. I mourned my little buddy. Then after a week, I ran into Cody. Literally ran into him with my minecart. I tamed him and he became my new best friend. We went everywhere together. That is for a few days. One morning the same thing happened. In my room, by my bed...he was gone. He was in a sit position.
My tamed cats have not gone missing as of yet, but I've only had them a short while. What gets me is the wolves go missing after I save the game and restart it...to me that is what is irritating. I don't like the cats as well as the wolves because of their meowing, but they do scare the creepers, so I put up with them. I am having a feeling this is a bug, and I know it has been there for at least TU12 and now TU13.
I and others have had missing animals after TU12 but have not had that issue since TU13.
I was hoping since TU13 was a bug fix update, that this wouldn't happened, but it just did. Always seems to be related to a save when exiting the world.
A few times I lost my cat only to find them in some strange place later. Went on the roof of my house one time and there it was. Later in some underground area. Once I found him buried in a little air pocket under my house. Still have one missing cat and one missing wolf.
Before TU12 I maxed out the tame wolves in my world. I had them guarding entrances, watching gardens, used them for Endermen hunting, etc... When TU12 came out their behaviors changed so I moved all of them to my storage area & after a few days they began acting in unison. They would all face the same direction & when one would turn the rest would do the same. Soon after that I started finding wild wolves attacking my sheep. So I started taming the odd one or two that would show up & took them to my storage area. A few times I caught my wolves suffocating in the walls so eventually I moved them outside into fenced areas. Now I have 70 tamed wolves & still randomly find tamed wolves in areas I don't frequent & wild wolves staring at my sheep.
This is another bug in the Xbox360 edition that needs to be patched by 4J Studios. Make sure you update to the latest Title Update (13). If it doesn't work, please wait for TUJ14. This will solve the problem with tamed wolves and cats running away.

Not sure if you understood what I was saying....my tamed wolves didn't run away. It was an "exit game save" that is the problem. When you save the game and the wolf is sitting in front of you....it still should be still there when you come back to the game. It isn't. Something is happening in the actual writing to the save state. Namely the actual "Save and Exit" state, not just the save state.
If you just save the game, and don't pick up the controller, time marches on in the game...but if you "SAVE and EXIT" and you actually leave the game, time should pause in game until you return. Everything should be the same as you left it. My point is that returning to a game, is not the same as you leave it. Something in the data is being lost somewhere.
It has been 5 and half months and a major update and I had a big surprise. After ALL these months, I returned to my house by minecart after exploring my towns and I heard a dog. ONLY in the region of my New house. Then when my minecart stopped, there was this wolf standing by the minecart. I didn't see a collar, so I ignored him. Walked into my house and he came to follow me...was that a glimpse of red? (I had dyed all my other dog collars so none had red at the time). He wouldn't come in the house, so I shut the door and began to put away my supplies and behold...a dog appeared in my kitchen. Couldn't see the collar again, so decided to do a quick save before I try to sit him. After saving I touched him and behold he sat and I could see the red collar again!!!! One of my dogs....returned home FINALLY after all these months and he found his way to my new house.
Yeah, its a really annoying bug. But I found that if you feed them and take them for a walk once a day, they won't despawn. My cats, on the other hand, have never despawned. They've stayed guarding my castle for about a year now. The only thing is, they won't respond when I tell them to sit or stand, so I have to push them if I need them to move
I found it quite funny, my wife was building her minecart path some good distance away from the house and POOF, all five of her wolves just popped up to say hey.

Has anyone else had this problem?
